NASCAR On TNT

TNT has an excellent idea during races, IMO: The commercials are shown in a "picture-in-picture" format. The race can still be seen while the commercial plays in a box in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. The announcers say something like "TNT, where you never miss any of the action." The only time they "cut away" and do full-screen ads is during cautions. ...And that time appears to be mainly used for local cable/satellite companies to run their ads.

(...And maybe it was just me, but strangely, my eyes were actually drawn down to the ad while just glancing up at the race.)

Anyway, I thought this was a really cool idea.

Agreed - and quite interesting that the race isn't relegated to a box on a quarter of the screen, but the commercial is! Wonder if the sponsors are aware of that!

The TNT format takes getting used to, but it works...also the leaderboard was screwed up toward the end of the race on several occasions. Several of the "start and parkers" (i.e.: the poor teams that can only afford to run a handful of laps , then park and pocket the prize money) were showing upwards of 30th place after 150 laps, even though they dropped out after 2 and actually finished 40th and beyond. TNT corrected the errors, but for those following the points chase, it was distracting.

I thought it was great to watch the race on TSN (Canadian 'ESPN') and not see the constant barrage of commercials.
