NASCAR Racing

How come NASCAR isn't on a full-market signal in Hartford? I know many NASCAR fans for whatever reason don't have cable and can no longer listen to the races because CC moved KIX from 97.9 to 100.9 and they can't pick up 97.3 WZBG. I have one friend who lives in New Britain (near the former Walmart on Farmington Ave) and she tells me she can't get pick up WZBG 97.3 due to Bomba 97.1. Why didn't CC put NASCAR on FOX SPORTS RADIO 1410? Someone should buy one of the Spanish AMers 910 or 990 flip it to an English Language format and pick up NASCAR.

Some of my NASCAR friends are going to kill me for my comments. :)

Not sure if there is enough of an audience in a major city for NASCAR. Unlike baseball, I think you have to see NASCAR in order to enjoy it.

It's safe to say NASCAR may well be less of an urban thing. WPOP may be a good outlet for it; it couldn't hurt after directing their audience to 97.9. To quote a radio GM from my distant past, it's like "putting the cart before the horse" to put NASCAR on a weak suburban AM and THEN try to figure out what other English language programs you can get to fill the other 95% of the week. You can't build a new station around NASCAR.

As an aside, many NASCAR fans nationwide know Rick Benjamin. Rick has spent many years in many markets in TV and radio (and most recently Sirius XM and even a movie) talking about everything to do with racing. Rick is a colleague who has roots in Connecticut going back to the 70s at WMMW, WWYZ and the former WATR-TV. Hard work paid off.
