NASCAR

This could cover several markets but I'll put it here. I was coming down I-81 through Roanoke, Va. on Sat.trying to find the Nationwide race and all down 81 and 77 AND across 40 to Hickory, NC I finally found it on WHKY in Hickory. Use to be when you topped Fancy Gap you could hit scan and have several stations to chose from on Am and FM. What's up with this? Are the stations not selling it or is no one buying?

its sad too see that nascar has gone by the way side into a dump.............................................. i mean when i grew up you caught the races on wfmx in statesvile----now nothing!!!!!!!!!!
dont get me started on what cheap channel did tooooo them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggg!

why do cheap channel have to RUIN "heratage" stations since were on the subject on antoher thread on dis board. talk about a station with heritage wfmx had it! as for your ?, im not really sure why you cant hear on a lot of stations. wtqr cant air prn races cause wsjs has those. ive heard nascar is hurting bad this year cause ofthe economy too. i mean if were not gonna pay 4 dollrs for gas why 100 dollars for tix to nascar?????????????

I Win!

For me, Nascar has lost much of it's lustre since going "international". Sadly, a Japanese auto maker is dominating what used to be a genuinely American sport. I used to be an avid Nascar fan, nowadays, my Sundays are spent watching the Discovery Channel.

Don't forget, that same Japanese automaker struggled all last season--- and has been linked to cheating scandals both last year (the jet fuel in Michael Waltrip's car) and, most recently, the magnets in the two Joe Gibbs Nationwide cars last weekend.
Meanwhile, has anyone noticed the irony I have about the CoT? Last year, after winning the inaugural race at Bristol, Kyle Busch said the car "sucked." This year, he's kicking everybody's butts--- and it's all CoT now; the old car is no longer in use in the Cup series. ???

Wait a minute! I thought WTQR took over the NASCAR coverage after WFMX died? Even with the conflict with WSJS, most of the races are aired by MRN Radio, and of course, the Brickyard race is aired by the IMS Radio Network.
At least in Raleigh we don't have that problem; 94.7 QDR is our NASCAR station--- MRN and PRN; the Brickyard race is usually aired on 850 The Buzz, but QDR carries the other races--- and they're not going anywhere anytime soon--- 24 years and still going strong...

WTQR had been a NASCAR station for years - long before CC killed FMX. WTQR even gave up the PRN races (10 a season) before FMX disappeared.

All that said, the question was about the Nationwide Series (formerly Busch). You find that coverage on way fewer stations - usually an AM partner of the FM that carries the Cup races.

Unfortunately, no one really cares about the Nationwide series. Just look at the stands during the TV coverage. It is a shame, because the racing has been better in that series of late. The Cup series races are horrible - anyone remember Indy this year!

Back to the question........Are the stations not trying to sell or is no one buying?

Does anyone know who carries Winston Cup Today? If you can track down that show, the chances are good the station that carries it will also carry all the big races. If you go back and check, I've never been wrong. BOO-YA!

Well, you're kind of wrong about that whole "Winston Cup" thing because it hasn't been called that in YEARS. BOO YA!

WTG Ditto.....Slam DUNK!!!!!!

To the original question, which was about the NATIONWIDE series, I believe: very few stations can sell the Nationwide series unless it is bundled with Cup races. As a result, few stations that air the Cup races will also air the Nationwide series. As I said earlier, just look at the stands for a Nationwide race!

You should have little trouble finding a Cup race on the radio. I remember when TQR and SJS were co-owned, TQR carried the cup races and SJS carried SOME of the Busch races. When SJS took the PRN races away from TQR, we agreed to air the related Busch series races as well as daily update, the Monday night show and the Pit Reporters.

WSJS also aired the Sunday Drive program when there were not other conflicts.

Once again, Xtalker and me are the only two people on the whole board who make any sense at all! I stand by my earlier correctness. If they cange the name of the show, that's simantics. BOO-YA, Mark Garrow style.

Well, down in the Charleston area, NASCAR was on several of the big country music stations, like Cat Country 107.5, and The Gator from Savannah. Then, MRN dropped 107.5 last year, and now, it is on a hard to hear classic country station, 950 AM, with the night races stuck on 950 and tiny 1450 WQNT.

The problem is that there are three networks that carry different races. To carry the Indianapolis race, for example, you also have to carry the Indy 500, and the hours of support coverage that the IMS radio network carries, and that is why that race gets less coverage on radio here than in other places.

Nationwide Series races are much more popular in the Kentucky and Tennessee area, because stock car racing is so popular there. I was in Nashville last year during a Nationwide race, and it seemed like every tiny AM country music station that wasn't carrying football was airing the Nationwide Series.

Craftsman Truck Series races are almost unheard of here, except for the very dedicated stations that carry every race.

If you live anywhere south of Raleigh, you will be able to hear most races on 95.7 WKML or 92.9 WEGX (which brings a good signal above Fayetteville).

It is time for NASCAR to rename themselves as NARCAR.
National Association of Racing Car Auto Racing.
There is not one thing on the cars, not even nuts and bolts that are anything like stock cars.

Give it up. You know what would be exciting? Stock car races! Someone should start a racing association where
they race actual stock cars. They could call it.... NASCAR!

People could watch race car drivers driving cars just like the cars they drive... and.. and...

If that's too boring, then manufacturers had better start offering cars to the public that are capable of
such heavy duty usage.

Something went wrong because that's what it's was supposed to be about.
The success of technology and engineering in real cars was proven on the racetrack.
Now, it means nothing at all.

It's all just show biz now. I want to see stock cars races.

;D ;D You want to see "Stock Car Races"...Get on any Interstate!

That's the very reason I try to stay above it all in my Space Truck.

You want racing that is still fun and inventive, visit your local speedway (Bowman Gray, Caroway, Ace, 311, etc.) on any Friday or Saturday night. There are some real stock cars there!

The biggest problem with NASCAR is the level playing field! Sure, have rules, but reward innovation, don't punish it! And who said the cars have to be equal?
