Nash 947

I remember back when Nash first came on the air, people right here on this forum were saying that Nash had no chance of even breaking a 1-share. So it seems hypocritical that people can say the station is not doing well with a 2-share.

I remember goofin on someone that insisted they would get i think a 3.0 by that 1st summer....but someone saying not even a 1.0 would really seem stupid.

Talking 6+ #.

Thanks David,
Could you give us an idea how Nash is doing 25-54 in the NYC and M/S/U PPM's? The published ratings for the insignificant 6+ rankings have been quite low.

25-54 has been 1.7, 1.4 and 1.7 for last three books. I don't have M/S/U data any more recent than the Oct/Nov/Dec average of three books, and that is a 9.0, good for #1.

Saw someone comment on Facebook that Cumulus isn't concerned about the flat ratings, they just want the Nash brand in NYC.

Would that be true, false or someone's speculation?

David, are you sure that the 9.0 for M/S/U 25-54 is correct? For the 6+ ratings, their share has not been above 3.8 in the past few months. Perhaps you gave the number for Morristown NJ, instead of Middlesex-Somerset-Union?

BTW, Nash FM has recently backed off considerably on the number of pop/rock tunes they've been mixing in with the country songs during the nine hours they are local on weekdays. Instead of playing around one per hour it has been about 2-3 for the entire time period. If the posts on their Facebook page are any indication, this experiment has not been well received by many of their listeners.

I think it accomplished what they wanted, which was to drive some passion among country P1s and get some attention.

I wonder whether Nash FM will pick up the newly announced weekend program, American Country Countdown Rewind With Bob Kingsley. According to Allaccess, the Westwood One show will feature country songs from the 1990's and early 2000's. It will be aired on "All Nash Icon formatted stations and select Nash formatted stations, under the Cumulus umbrella."
That could help soothe the country fans that have been unhappy with the introduction of a few pop and rock tunes on Nash FM 94.7

The online list of songs broadcast by Nash FM over the past few days indicates that they have not recently played any of the pop and rock songs that had been added a few weeks ago, with one exception. They still air a few of Taylor Swift's pop tunes that are not normally heard on country radio, such as "22."

Does Cumulus have any idea what they are doing? Lew Dickey recently spoke about the addition of other genres on the station and days later they take them all out of rotation? Really? Good luck to them. I wouldn't want to be in their boat in New York right now? They have 3 stations treading water. They're small market mentality based in the south.... They should give it up and just sell the stations.

If they improved the sound quality as its worse then all the other stations & improved the signal strength i think that would be a good start.

I understand that signal strength is fine other than in Manhattan and a few isolated areas and that's not where the Country listeners are anyway.

I believe the primary area where Nash could benefit from a stronger signal is central Long Island. WELJ 104.7 in Montauk has been simulcasting Nash FM for the past few months. But WELJ is located so far east that it probably does not reach the more populous areas of Suffolk County, or any of Nassau. Perhaps Cumulus could eventually lease a few translators that exist in that area.
But the bulk of the area's country listeners are probably in NJ. And Nash reaches them just fine. Given the complex signal spacing issues Cumulus would need to resolve, plus the huge additional expenses, I believe it is highly unlikely they would want to move Nash's signal to the Empire State Building or any other location in Manhattan.
As for Nash's audio, I think it has improved to the extent that it sounds comparable to that of other major stations.
