Nash Becomes New Country

I listened while driving to work this morning.

I listened from about 7:30 to 8:15. At least during that time, Broadway & Krissy did not formally introduce themselves as the new morning show. No mention was made of what happened to the Ty Bentli show. It seemed like business as usual. The same liners with the same imaging voices played as before, except all "93-1 Nash FM" references were replaced with "New Country, 93-1."

For a first day, the new morning team didn't sound bad. However, some of the banter did sound contrived. Also, a call-in segment where the duo asked listeners to share their bad driver stories seemingly generated no usable phone calls. Despite asking people to call in and dishing out the station's phone number three times, the next two stopsets featured no listener calls.

The RDS readout was still reflective of the Nash branding, too. It'll be interesting to see if that's fixed by tomorrow.

Last but not least, the Facebook and Twitter links on the station's home page are dead. Great attention to detail by Cumulus!

WDRQ, 93.1 FM is dropping the NASH monkier in favor of 'New Country FM'. A local morning show will replace the Ty Bentli show.

NASH was largely the vision of the prior CEO of Cumulus who had a vision of a single nationwide format for the company's country stations. While the format has had some success, it didn't seriously challenge WYCD for the country crown in Detroit although the station has played a role in knocking WYCD from being perennially in the Top 5. Time will tell if this will improve ratings in Detroit.

It'll take time for the morning show to build an audience. I'm not sure how much of a difference this will make. On some level, while it might be nice that Cumulus is willing to invest in a local show, for most listeners it's all about the music. Not sure there will be a lot of daylight generated from cancelling the Bentli show and starting this new show.
