Nash FM Does Not Seem to be Gaining Much Traction

Im disappointed in Nash....such potential......but you need someone local from 7-11-12 at night with LOCAL information, local bands local bars even a local country music show....well for $45 mill and not much local cost maybe they can still pay off the debt

Anyone know why Cumulus developed Nash Nights Live, when they already had the syndicated CMT Radio Live With Cody Alan show weekday evenings on many of their country stations? If Nash Nights Live will soon air on all of their country stations as reported, it would seem likely that CMT Radio Live will be discontinued.

Why? There isn't much of a country scene in NYC. The music is all based in Nashville. No one cares about local bands.

my neighbor told me NASH FM is one of the many white folks stations., So---- I told him
he had HOT 97, Power 105, WBLS, WBGO, WWRL, WLIB , WBAI to listen to.
Lucky for me---- he laughed.

The question is if New Yorkers can relate to songs about dirt roads, corn fields, and pickup trucks. The last time we had a country station here, the music had a lot more pop crossover appeal, but now it's more rural (a nice way of saying "redneck") in nature.

I am trying to picture a mid-town trailer park HAHA...

Like all things musical, Country is cyclical. Over the years we've had the "Country-politan" phase, the "Outlaw" phase, the "Urban Cowboy" phase, the "Young Country" phase, and list rolls on...

Until there's another major life-style shift similar to the "Urban Cowboy" era, a 2.0 share is about all you can expect out of the format in cosmopolitan markets like NYC or SF....

Kevin, from what planet do you type? The past couple of years have more crossovers than ever!! Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood... and more. I'll argue that when WYNY (the 103.5 version) went away it was a lot more twang, tractors and hogs.

The bigger issue with Nash is that there are still a lot of people that have no clue it is there. There has been very little promotion of the station, Cumulus says that will come in 2014. Will it be top 5? No, but it can certainly do better.

I always laugh at the argument that people in NYC can't "relate" to country music. I may not "relate" to dirt roads, but I certainly can't figure out how I would "relate" to the likes of Lady Gaga or Pitbull either. I have never driven on a dirt road in my life, but I love the song "Dirt Road Anthem". Go figure :)

I'm not convinced of that. We spoke for 10 or more years on this board about whether country would work or not and heard argument after argument of why it would and why it wouldn't. The fact is that a Nash's current numbers are exactly where the last country station left off 17 years ago. Whether that "works" or not is up to Cumulus but it's certainly not a stellar format in this market. Promotion or not, country is not a hot ticket in New York. Nash is here to bill on a national level and have a presence in market no. 1...everybody knows that by now. It'll most likely remain on the air whether it pulls in a 0.5 or a 2.0.

Yep in fact the song that won "song record whatever they call it of the year award" at the american music awards was cruise by florida georgia line & nelly.
