NASH-FM national Cumulus country brand

Don't know if y'all have heard about this yet but...Cumulus just recently launched a country music station in NYC branded as 94.7 NASH-FM, and they are saying they are going to apply that branding to ALL of their country stations nationwide. Personally, I am pissed off at this. I don't want our live and local 92.9 WLXX to turn out like all these clear channel stations...with everything brought in by satellite from LA or NYC, no live & local content, etc. These media conglomerates are RUINING radio as we know it.

Really? Nash-fm? It's a horrible name. Like the bear was. Still wish it was branded as K93 but can't now with 93.9 down the road.

Local is better. Didn't 98.1 have some killer ratings in the morning. How did they do that? Local people.

According to Inside Radio, the Nash FM branding will be integrated into Cumulus country stations in different ways. Some will go with the full-blown "Nash FM" name while others will just incorporate some elements of "Nash" into their branding. KPLX in Dallas, for example, will be "99.5 The Wolf, a Nash station." So, you could hear "Nash FM 92.9" on WLXX, but you could just as easily hear, "92.9 WLXX Lexington, a Nash station," at the top of the hour and no other changes, or somewhere in-between.

By the way, very few, if any, "Nash FM" stations will be airing the same programming at the same time as 94.7 in New York. So, I wouldn't expect WLXX to be programmed like a satellite format.

To me personally... 92.9 can't compete with 98.1. They should flip or trade 103.3 or 102.5 to compete with the Cat or QQ on a stronger signal. Hot 93 or Z93.

Is anyone else shocked as me that The Cat's ratings are so good with little to no local talent? I bet that makes CC happy.

There is a good chance Cumulus will turn 92.9 into Nash-FM because they have nothing to lose as they already screwed up a good thing. Besides, Nash-FM is the latest Cumulus "Now/Wow" format so as far as they are concerned it will do no wrong.

At one time 92.9 could compete with 98.1 and win with ratings and revenue before Cumulus drove the signal to the lowest ratings and revenue ever.

Exactly... That is why I think they should just throw up something new on 92.9 and compete with one of the other big sticks.

I don't think that 92.9 has been completely "screwed". It is doing pretty decent in the ratings and applying the national NASH-FM brand to it is only going to make matters worse, I believe. Maybe if Cumulus actually hired a local morning crew like the Bull has (Officer Don & Dee Ann) their ratings would come up a bit. I can't think of anyone I know that listens to that God-awful Tony & Chris morning show. But adding more satellite-fed content is not going to help things at all.

As for The Cat, I am actually quite surprised their ratings are as high as they are. They have absolutely NO local air talent, unless you count the chick in sales/marketing (Meredith Lane) that does the one-hour "Interactive 9@9". I personally don't count her as air talent. She hardly talks on-air at all. I miss the good ol' days of local radio...(sigh)

Ha, thanks Walt. you are probably right. And Ky15, I enjoy listening to 100.7 as well. They have great local flavor. I just wish they had a bigger signal. Depending on what side of Lexington you are on, the signal can get sloppy.
