NASH FM New York City

Cumulus did an outstanding job stunting and launching the first country station in NYC this morning. Their new NASH FM 94.7 is jockless for now, but features a very hip website, and will be part of a new national brand. I've read that it will also feature a magazine, and more. www.nashfm94.7.com

Glad to see some creativity in our business again.

Since New York City has country music, is it San Francisco's turn, now SF is the largest market without a full market country station.

To bolster this as a brand with national presence, an entity called Consolidated IP Company LLC registered "Nash FM" as a trademark for radio broadcasting services. This company happens to be located at the same address as Cumulus Atlanta.

This morning Cumulus announced that the NASH FM brand will be on all 83 of their country outlets. Markets, large and small.

The question is what happens in the markets where Cumulus owns two country stations? And Why would they do this on there Highly successful country stations? re-imaging those stations could be a big mistake. Heard this will not be"Canned Programming" like Premium Choice but more like National Branding like CC's "Kiss FM" Brand but on a larger scale. Will be interesting to watch this one?

Definitely a big mistake for heritage country station WOKQ in New Hampshire. Why can't Cumulus leave well enough alone?

I agree it would be crazy to re-brand them but somebody has posted the question on the WOKQ FB page

yipes, 83 cumulouse country stations to become 1 big centralized nashrash! this critic(scott), guesses they will incrementally begin to disintegrate local employage market by market. until eventually there is just a few top dogs hosting, interviewing and laughing it up on all 83 stations. does cumulouse really need 83 country music directors, and 83 country program directors, and 83 morning and afternoon hosts, when the work is and or can be done at the McCumulouse central command center?

this will provide a good vacuum of an opportunity for the other local country station/s and staff to flex their muscle, and inform their listenership and market what that big out o town competition is all about. but, i wonder if that young, short attention span demographic even cares these days?

this may also have some financial positives, as they thin the payroll, and corral their national market of major urban market listeners to the same websight, magazine, and probably even eventually live TV/screen broadcasts. ya, this may put them on a national broadcast level and create a big national network like clout.

And all 83 stations will no doubt be forced to air CMT Radio Live if they don't already, the worst evening show I have ever heard and often times not even live.

How many markets have 2 country stations owned by Cumulus? I can only think of Des Moines. And I am sure they will blow one up sometime this year.
