Nash FM

No more than selling New York Pizza outside of New York.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

Since it's a country station, and it's the city most associated with country music, no, it's not weird at all.

As long as they don't confuse people by playing Crosby, Stills, and NASH, they'll do fine. ;D

but New York is a hard country sell. It's a risky format here to begin with and they finally took the plunge and did it and went with a name like Nash???
Maybe it won't matter but with an infinity of other options why choose that one?

For the 500th time, this is a national brand. They are not relying solely on NY advertisers as other local stations do.
And I don't get why people are all bent out of shape over the word "Nash". It sounds a lot better than some ridiculous animal name like "Cat Country" or "The Wolf".

They should get Nash Overstreet to be the spokesman. Have him drive a Nash Rambler.
And give out "Nash Bridges" DVDs, I suppose.

uuhh we get it. That doesn't take away the fact that it's a bad name, national brand or not. They still will want to appeal to New Yorker's. In a city that's not too country friendly, with a name like Nash, good luck! Why do country stations always have hoaky names, Froggy, Wolf, Cat blah, blah

Because their researched and work. I can't speak for Cumulus on a NYC level, but I guarantee they researched the name, the logo etc. before coming to the conclusion that this was their national brand.

I haven't found a phone app or any way to stream the station on a smart phone yet. Tunein, IHeart, etc. nothing so far. Does anybody know? Am I missing it? Seems strange that they would do this great unveiling of the format today, and not have an app for it.

The phone-app part probably might not be a concern to them at present, WTAE.

Nor is the name Nash.

They have their NYC marquee, just the way Disney and ESPN and Salem have (and at one time, Family Radio had). That is all they want. Aside from a local morning-drive show, which might bring in enough extra bucks to support itself, no one reasonably should expect another WJRZ 97 or WHN. Nobody in the target audience remembers those stations anyway.

The novelty and the buzz will wear off, and Cumulus knows this. The prestige and the visibility is what they're after in the longer run. As cheap as they're reputed to be, Cumulus probably isn't on midnight conference calls to sign up a superstud NYC morning show, either. They could even simulcast Imus for a while if they want, and get a .5 more in the morning than some syndicated show would get.

From the gitgo, the station could get more for a month or so, but the cynic in me says that Cumulus would be quite happy with a steady 1.7 - 2.0 for the PPM books.

I agree Steve on the numbers. This is again a national format, being rolled out in the #1 market in the country. That's what they really want. Your right!

Still surprised however, there's no way to listen to them on a smart phone. They did everything else right.

There is a big difference between a national brand and a national network.

A network subscribes to the Arbitron national network service, and sells based on coverage of many, many discreet individual local markets.

A brand is exemplified by Kiss, which is Clear Channel's national brand for a variety of styles of CHR and rhythmic and Hot AC. Kiss is not a network, and each local station uses the brand in the manner appropriate for the market. The stations that use the brand don't sell like a network.

In other words, unless we see that Nash walks and talks like a 100% simulcast network and is not simply a brand applied to a variety of local stations, we can't say that this a network.

That's what they were going to get regardless of format. That's just a reality right now. Music formats have been niched to death. So there is no format that would get them a 6.

So they'll be happy with a 2 share, and sell it as the #1 country station in the US. If they get a 2 share, that's over 2.6 million cume, more than double what WUSN is getting in Chicago. 2.6 million cume alone is a sellable number to national agencies.

Unsure if this will help, but see my post from the WRXP stream thread on 1/18/13 (when "The Wheel Of Formats" started),
which includes direct streaming URLs you may be able to plug into your device:

Should you need even more specific streaming URLs than are in the above-linked post, let me know.

Trying that now pjc. Thanks! David? Your right. They have confirmed its a national brand, but haven't confirmed that it will be one of their network formats. My bad on that. There has been mention, that NASH could replace their Today's Best Country network format.

To bolster this as a brand with national presence, an entity called Consolidated IP Company LLC registered "Nash FM" as a trademark for radio broadcasting services. This company happens to be located at the same address as Cumulus Atlanta.
