Nashville Passes from Market 44 to 45

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to mourn the passing of Nashville from Arbitron market 44 down to market 45. Ol' number 44 was a good market ranking, as it gave us a slight bit more importance in the radio world, and it will be sorely missed. We will always remember it in our hearts; to those of us gathered here, the Nashville radio market will always be more important than it shall be in eternity. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if the whiskey don't get you, the women must. Yea verily.

The Nashville TV market gets to include Clarksville, Cookeville etc. Places that aren't included as part of the radio market.

I don't think going from 44 to 45 is any big deal. Memphis going from 50 to 51 is not good for that market.

Jackson returns as market 279 after going away in the Spring book.

If there's one thing I've learned in radio...you can't deposit market size. I've had some really bad offers in top 10 markets and really good ones from much smaller cities. I'm a big fan of just picking a city you enjoy living in. Until the PD, OM or GM change and you have to move again. Ah, radio.

Loads of security in a large TSA... That is where a 100 to 200 Metro sized market is a top 150 TV household market (Nielson) and a top 100 TSA (Total Service Area).... Tend to be a hub of business.. Gains some in a good economy, but does not totally tank in a bad one.. Mix of business, commerce, agriculture and manufacturing, education.....Does not depend on one or two major industry players.... My town lost the blue collar jobs at Whirlpool.. Kept the 100k years tech jobs with the company and the support manufacturers.. Now, a couple of years later, it looks to gain about 40% of the lost labor jobs back in the first phase of at Dutch Company buying the historical plant (built P-47's as the half mile long building was built in just 7 months ('41-'42).... Folks there prepare for ups and downs.. By the way, it's South Central's flagship market and the smallest of the three.... Low turnover at the two major clusters there (compared to the larger metros).. Just an example...

So who passed us? At least it wasn't Memphis, as I see from reading their board.

The only reason Nashville's gone down is b/c of the newly created #39 market - Hudson Valley.

That's very true and New Orleans got to add counties to it's market. Two reasons why Memphis was pushed from 49 to 51.

It's too bad Nashville doesn't have talent worthy of its new 45 ranking.

Anybody going for new station called COLT 45 with a pair of pistols in the morning?
