I just spent six months in memphis going to school and really enjoyed 99.7 fm
in Memphis. They just had a fun feel about them. Its nice to get back to my favorites in
nashville but if you are going there for any amount of time..that station is really smooth.
I'm glad to be back. Its nice riding back and ya start picking up the signals about an hour or so down the road. rpmm

The few times I've been in Memphis recently, I'd have to agree. They are a fine radio station.

FM 100 has been a great station in the past, but I wonder about the direction they're headed since being taken over by Entercom. They fired Steve Conley from the morning show, and Tom Prestigiacamo, who had been on in the afternoon since the 80's has moved to KIM FM 98.9. There is still a question of whether he left FM 100 on his own, or was fired as well. They definitely seem to be headed the wrong direction with their air staff.

As for their signal, how far toward Nashville can you get them? I know this time of year it's nothing unusual for WWTN to blow FM 100 out in the Jackson/Dyersburg area where I live, and when I go toward Nashville on I 40 I'm usually listening to WAY-FM or WNAZ/WNRZ.

Late 1970's and early 80's I lived in the Newsom Station subdivision, far western Davidson County. WMSR 99.7 was a daytimer then. At WMSR nightly sign off I could clearly pick up FM100 Memphis on my clock radio. I think FM100 was 300,000 watts then. Once WWTN got 99.7 local and all day, that ended the skip, power or whatever FM100 utilized to reach my radio 180 miles away.

"FM100 means music, WMC-FM Memphis."

What a fine station with a history of playing the hits. Good mix of the old and new, I enjoy FM 100 in Memphis.

Scott, indeed FM100 was a great station for a very long time. During the high power, late 70's/early 80's era I would listen to Nashville Maplewood High alumnae and future Y-107 midday personality J. Karen Thomas working the 10P -2A shift.

They should just sign 99.7 WWTN off so we could hear FM 100. The last thing Nashville needs is another right wing station with their 24-7 Local Live Hate talk all day long. LAC is enough!

I was in Wilson County at the time, and would regularly listen to POWER99 Atlanta on 99.7 after 10pm...
when WMSR would shut down for the night. Remember that horrible beautiful music they played?
And I recall one announcer...Vernon Bogle...and I'm not being unkind...had the enunciation of Elmer Fudd.
"Pewcy Faiff and da Owchestwa". Sign-on was 7am...and many times, POWER99 covered WMSR when
the Manchester station was on-air. Oh yeah...highly directional antenna pointed at Atlanta (and Manchester)
from West Wilson).

Forget FM 100. Let's just put you on WTN 24/7 so you can "spread" your special positive, all-accepting form of love, as reflected by your kind and motivating message. ;)

Here's another idea. Nobody listens to NPR. Take over 90.3 FM and simulcast FM100 in its place. That would improve the unbiased programming on NPR:

"This is 'All Things Considered' on NPR (trumpet sfx). Today Senator John Kerry reiterated that he has a plan for America. Details were not revealed but you can bet it has manna falling from heaven (trumpet sfx). Meanwhile the White House and its evil minions are defending draconian hate crimes in the Middle East (trumpet sfx). This is NPR, funded with a grant from the Exxon/Mobil Foundation for Cleaner Fuels and your tax dollars."

"Nobody listens to NPR"

I assume you are joking. WPLN is one of the highest rated public stations.

Last book they were in the four share area 12+.

Great, brian, can I buy ads on PLN with those 4.0+ numbers? Who cares. It's not "real" radio??? ;D
But, in a weird way, I do think those "women" with raspy monotone voices are hot and exciting to listen to...
This was all just in jest (joking) because of a certain new poster's brilliant biassed slam on Dave Ramsey and the gang
at Crumulus. (trumpet sfx...) And, when did anyone pay attention to 12+ (in honor of my friend Oldiescat???) lol

At least NPR is not a bunch of Biased Blow-Hards kissing Bush's tail. Is there anyone who posts on this board who works at WWTN? Isn't it true the Bush White house sends you guys a list of recomended topics every day? Be honest...

npr not biased ? what a hoot..i don't work at wwtn..but as a super secret agent with the decoder ring for wlac..i can tell you..first..the bush white house sends the topics to Rush..then he sends them out to the rest of us God forsaken heathens..then we all march in lockstep to battle the evil hordes of left wing extremists...bible in one hand, gun rack in the other..praise the Lord and pass the Jack Daniels... ;D

Delta, I can get you all the Jack you want, but nothing can taste good with the kool-aide our new friend
Fredj has obviously been drinking. A bit of advice, Fred, at least come up with something 5% probable or accurate
to post on here. This is like your 7th post. You'll grow into it. But, everyone already knows PRESIDENT GEORGE
BUSH HIMSELF CALLS 99.7 TWICE A DAY TO TELL THEM WHAT TO SAY. Give us a friggin' break. The government
doesn't allow Jack Daniels to be made in sizes large enough to even remotely make anyone with two brain cells
believe your biased comment. Try again. Or go post in Boston.

But to be fair and always balanced toward you --- you ARE CORRECT on the post on the ratings.
SCRG would have all of the top 5 stations if it was possible to buy Crummy, or is that Crommy, out. :)

i have an idea...lets keep this radio oriented..you know...all pissed off because we can't program a station the way we want to..and totaly flumaxxed that suits in another city make $$$$$$$$$$ whlie consistantly fubaring the stations they control...and i have to totaly fair and honest, i lived here all my life and i'm a crown royal man..not JD..it's just JD is considered such a southern staple..like grits and gravey..just wanted to be liquerly correct...so to speak...and i still love the antiques road show...wonder if "W" tells them what to appraise ??? ::)

C'mon Fred, you know the NPR tail kissing starts on 1/20/09, Bush's last day. A democrat in the White House means CNN and NPR fight for the top brownnose award (trumpet, or flatulence sfx). To paraphrase Betty White on "The Simpsons": "When you listen to NPR and don't pledge, it is like stealing radio."

Admitting my ignorance...

I'm probably the only poster on this board who doesn't know what Memphis' FM100 plays, but... what DO they play?
