Nashville to say bye to standards

WAMB, longtime standards/EZ station has been sold to Bott Radio. They mostly program christian talk. So another big market looses standards. Also, Chatanooga said bye to AM 1310 a week or so back, they went to Air America.

Obviously, that's not good news for adult standards fans in the state of Tennessee. Especially in Nashville and Chattanooga. Then again, should we really be surprised? Adult standards has been a format in steady decline for quite some time now. After all, most station owners aren't going to continue to lose money on a format that reaches the 55, 65+ demos.

No big loss

I'm in Nashville and a huge fan of the standards/MOR format, but WAMB was the worst station I ever heard doing the format. This is no big loss. Even if they would have flipped on a WW1 satellite and aired their format, it would have been much better.

Aren't they already running satellite programming on overnights? And while WAMB isn't the best-sounding station in the world, does Nashville need another religious signal. Guess WNCV-1160 (are those calls available? If not, you know it'll be something very close to those) will just add to the pile.

No, WAMB is automated at night, but it's not satellite. In fact the "Beautiful Music In The Night" is more easy listening than standards. Word is now that WAMB will be moving to the weaker 1200 AM signal. I don't believe WNCV is available as that had been suggested on the Nashville board.
