Nashville's #1 Station Is Automated

The number 1 radio station in Nashville is a desktop computer. What does that mean for the future of air personalities?

Future for air-personalities? In this era of voice-tracking and most stations being nothing more than i-pods connected to a transmitter?

Largely the reason why I chose to end my 25 year run in radio back in 2005. Those stations that DO use live people pay no more than minimum wage. Impossible to make a real living on air anymore.

R.I.P the days when radio had entertainment value and creativity. Harsh but true.

maybe 92Q was years ahead of its time with the carousel of tunes in the mid 70's.. but is indeed sad it's come to this... :'(

FM really hadn't come into its own in the '70s. That was kinda the point that I was making in the "live and local" thread. My former station in the early '90s was still using equipment that I am sure dated from the '70s. We had the carousel of commercials on carts, but our music was from reel-to-reel tapes! What was amazing about this is that Broadcasting Supply West out of Seattle was still supplying us (and apparently other stations as well) with music on reel-to-reel tapes in 1992! From a listener standpoint, I couldn't tell that the music was on reel-to-reel tapes, but it still amazed me that not only were we still using reels in 1992, but that someone was still servicing us with them!

Spew's right, of course. Sarge is certainly on reel to reel. Just look at his photo at Mix929.com. Not that THAT
station with all THAT 70's music has to use reel to reel...and it's not like it's is a player in town or anything like 'SIX is. Yep! I'll hear about this one...

Speaking of '70's, what ever happened to 70's Saturday Night? I thought that was a nice little extra for the weekend, a break from the soft rock as well as a break from Delilah. Is Delilah on Saturday nights now, and do we need that much of her???

You're asking the wrong people. Ask the public if they care.

They haven't done that in years! But I agree with you, we need the '70s music back! Delilah is on seven nights a week now! ::) Even Delilah would be sick of herself by now! ::)

Lite 98.7 in Hopkinsville, although also a Deliliah affiliate, still does their "streaking through the '70s" on Saturday nights. Would love to have that here!

Big A ~ I am not sure what you are saying? The public doesn't care if it's VT-ed, automated, dead or live?

In some cases they don't, and in some they do. When it comes to certain music formats, any talk is seen as an interruption. Some other music formats like the personal connection. But there's no one-size-fits-all any more. The fact that a station can get an 8 share with minimal hosting says the listeners for that format like more music.
