Nashville's Jack!!

The fast climb of JACK is dramatic in NashVegas, and probably the strongest of the format in the country. Nashville's new #1 next trend? Show's me that people in the Music City were tired of the same old crap!

Thanks!

Top ranked 25-54, Top 3 18-34.

Also kuddos to WRQQ, the new Oldies station- pretty much recovering what 96.3 left the Oldies format before the flip to Jack.

<LOL> Heck, Cumulus could've done JACK and saved everybody the hassle.

Successful radio news in Nashville, I see.

Question: Does Cumulus own any VH stations?

Jack!!

honestly, I don't think it matters at this point. It appears TENS OF THOUSANDS
in Nashville are loving what Jack is playing (despite the fact you are still hung up on the fact they don't take requests).

After this extremely impressive Nashville trend, I am now convinced there should be a Variety Hits station in every market. There are still several markets that lack a VH outlet, a low rated/billing station in all of those markets should go for it. It seems to me that Variety Hits plays especially well in medium/large "Heartland" markets such as Nashville, St Louis, Indy, etc. One market that jumps out at me as a place where someone should switch to Variety Hits (on a good signal) is Cincinnati.

We have to remember that this was one trend. Jack is currently in its glory days. Will it last. We will see. I have a feeling Nashville's Jack will be very successful though.

Why do I even bother with the (-:
I too, Ironicly, happen to be loving what Jack plays.

I want to see Jack hit the top too, but I hate not having a Hot AC. I Used to listen to Star 97 just to hear Casey Kasem's American Top 20. (in fact I heard the last show Star did on the Saturday morning before they flipped)

Jack!!

but you bitch INCESSANTLY about the fact their voiceover guy doesn't say "hey, call us with your requests". The PERCEPTION is because of the way you constantly whine about it that you hate Jack.

One reason for its success in Nashville

I think the major contributor to JACK's success here in Nashville is that there was a huge hole for the music. Before JACK, the only station that even touched '70s and '80s music was a tight playlisted classic rock station. The oldies outlet stayed stuck in the '60s and the hot AC played '80s only during the lunch hour. Nashville radio listeners were craving this music. Then JACK comes along and gives Nashville what it needed. It's no surprise to me that it's doing well.

Now if you put JACK in a city like Tampa where '70s and '80s are already covered well on the radio, then it won't make as much of an impact.

The Jack format is fine, but in many markets, Jack is the only station that plays certain songs.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. If the listener wants to hear something coming up in three hours time, this hour instead, that shouldn't be a problem.

Re: One reason for its success in Nashville

You mean other than WRQQ, which was an 80s station until somewhat recently?

Sure, it's a small town radio format. Should do wonders in markets like that, in fact, most small town radio sounds like Jack. In big city markets? Just look at what happens in the next 8 months.

No. Since I moved here last December, WRQQ (Star 97) played nothing but '90s and current all day except for the noon hour lunchtime show. I know it was all '80s at some point in the past.

That's a brilliant observation. Only the top 23 markets are
over 2M people and the next 27 or so are over 1 M. Nashville
is not considered a small town radio market at #44... In the next
8 months, you'll see Jack-types in 75% of the top 50 markets.
Try again when you have an ounce of valid information to add
to the discussion. Meanwhile, Jack is an outlet that gives
listeners a break from the status quo that is so overdone
in this country. Now, if we could just get to the next level
and actually have Jack-like stations that are even more
radical and unresearched. Trust me, they are out there and
hugely successful ... only not in the US ... yet.

Nashville isn't a "small town" area. Yes, will Jack be a success? We don't know. With the way it looks, I PREDICT that Jack will survive. We will see if my prediction was right or wrong in several months/years.

Years to come? Wow, everyone can be right eventually.
Sorry, it's a small town radio format, a bunch of cds put on autopilot with no rhyme or reason.

Jack

Hmmmm. Is that why it's on fire in L.A., St. Louis, Dallas, Phoenix, Seattle, Minneapolis, Indy, Nashville. A bunch o' hick towns, they must be.

Bad enough you hate the concept but you can't even bring yourself to acknowledge their early successes.

I understand how he "thinks" the format will fail. Thats his PREDICTION, but he is saying "jack will fail" or "no doubt jack will fail" but he or us has absolutely NO idea if Jack will die or live. He can't just say that. Apparently, listeners love Jack. Like you said, he won't acknowledge that he was wrong, so far after the recent ratings/trends shown.
