Nashville's Oldies 97.1 flips to Classic Hits

Tibbs4

Banned
Nashville's Oldies 97.1, reborn after Oldies 96.3 flipped to Jack in May 2005, stunted and flipped to 60's and 70's
Classic Hits today at 5:00 pm. Another one bites the dust. Not to many oldies stations left to talk about, are there?
Cumulus - owned. Another unexciting station is born this September afternoon. Not much more exciting than was
it was as Oldies.

radiofriend will tell you its the right choice and no big loss, such nice guy and oldies fan he is. :D :D

radiofriend is a huge oldies fan. radiofriend also realizes you can't stay stuck in happy days mode in the year 2006 and expect to have listeners advertisers want to target and therefore generate revenue

get real, guys. you want to keep playing the shoop shoop song and cathy's clown, fine-they R great songs and i love them. but in 2006 U cannot feature songs like that with an oldies station in a competitive market and expect to be among the top rated stations (even the top half of the pack) and operate like a good business does.............lots of customers, lots of advertisers and make a living doing so. i'm not talking about jocks who play songs but the folks who own and run the stations who are espected to be somewhat profitable. it's the bare minimum expectation of ANY business venture

what part of that do U not understand????????????

Don't lump me into the anti-progress movement. I just made note of another format change. I have never worked with the Oldies
format, but I have seen it's obvious decline due to natural causes. It's hard enough to make a viable format profitable in today's
market. No matter what, in my book, your obligation is to have THE #1 station. If your signal prevents that, then accept it or
don't take on the job. The Nashville flip to Classic Hits of the 60s and 70s is not going to fare that much better. It's played to
a lukewarm reception here three times and this newest attempt is probably the most lackluster. I'll stick with Jack or real
Classic Rock for the next year. It will be interesting to see where Jack goes in the next year, but that's food for thought on
another board.

Cumulus in Nashville cannot rise above it. With Oldies or Classic Hits, they don't have the fortitude to take it to the next level.
That's the real issue. Oldies doesn't put people or stations in the winner's circle. Or at least, common radio follow-the-leader theories of
today dictate the mindset. So fact it becomes. Investing in a real go-getter top-notch Oldies format is costly, which is the key word
for 'avoid' these days. Knowing the ratings are tough to get and hold doesn't make it an accepted business practice.

Don't you love what the website says....

"You asked for it... we listened! That's right folks: Oldies 97.1 is now 97.1 WRQQ, Rock 'n Roll Hits Of the 60's and 70's! So get ready for the best rock 'n roll Nashville has ever heard! To learn more about the switch, click here."

I guess they must be talking about what advertising agencies asked for... Who cares if anybody listens or likes the station? Just as long as we appeal to the right demographic...

radiofriend is being realistic.

It's a shame. I give Cumulus credit for starting oldies up again in Nashville (and I'm usually not too fond of their techniques).

cumulus does not have the rep of being the sharpest tools in the shed

they were idiots for launching what was basically "yesterday's" type of oldies station in the first place. morons

Once again proving that its not neccessarily the music genre, but rather the execution of the format responsible for its demise.

both actually. if u launch what is basically a sixties and seventies classic hits-type library with the old fashioned 60s boss jock delivery and all the other typical oldies stuff, you'll sound very old

if u launch a fifties and sixties approach, it doesn't matter what the execution sounds like---your average listener will be 60+ and u will be left out of most spot buys
