NASSAU NEW ENGLAND CLUSTER MAY SOON BE ON THE BLOCK!

According to "Inside Radio," Mercatanti has regain control of Nassau and will put many, if not all of Nassau's NE radio stations up for sale. Source also stated that Nassau will concentrate it's efforts with the Mid Atlantic Region. Anybody have any details on these developments?

Inside Radio's webcast says Lou will raise about 52 million to buy back the company from Goldman Sucks at 20 cents on the dollar. All NE stations along with a few others and their Boston real estate to be sold off to repay some of that loan.

"Inside Radio's webcast says Lou"....

Thanks for the info and reply. It will be something to watch very closely. Hopefully, job loses will be at a minimum.

For the recoird they employ a number of people (fewer than they used to) and those people have families, lives. Human beings not just Line Items in a budget. Or statistics.

Who knows, with new ownership maybe they'll even hire a few people. Louis Vitali seemed to do quite well with WQEZ and the W-BACH stations in Maine before Louis of Nassau came calling with an offer he couldn't refuse.

As I see it, the questions now are: Who wants them? Those VT properties may be hard to unload.
Who has the ability to buy them? That's a short list.

I read that as "they are unloading stations that aren't making money," could they hold on to some/all of the Portland stations? Are any of their NH and VT properties profitable? They can't be doing too badly in Maine, after all they have two 3-person morning shows... that's more people in early in the morning on Congress St. than cans of Old Milwaukee I've had before noon!

In all seriousness, with the Citadel-Cumulus deal going on, and now this, there are some legit, good, talented, hardworking people I'm sure that are a bucket of nerves right now in Portland radio, let's hope for the best for these folks.

Cheers,
OldPort Wino

Negative, they are unloading ALL New England stations. Period. As the webcast states, they are in advanced stages of negotiating with potential buyers to see what those clusters are worth.

Are there any "good" radio companies that are honestly growing right now, and also buying? Bigger companies like Clear Channel and CBS have been getting OUT of smaller markets in the past few years. I honestly can't think of any off the top of my head...

Cheers,
OldPort Wino

So if Goldman Sachs is taking twenty cents on the dollar for their financing, I wonder if Lou is taking twenty cents on the dollar for what he bought the stations for?

Everything is for sale. Nothing is sacred. We live in an age where owners trade as often as stock brokers. So buy everything you can and forget "Go west young man"

The one's that can't make money are in NH....been there...might be interested in them...but formats are wrong in most of the markets they are in.....

Just for giggles, what format(s) is/are right for the NH stations?
