Does this give any insight on what will happen with 107.5? It was mentioned on this board that they would flip 107.5 to country to pull numbers away from Cat Country; in turn, this would help 99.9 WODE's numbers. If they are selling WODE, this changes things a bit.

This IS an interesting turn of events! Totally makes you wonder what is going to happen!

Perhaps a former poster's idea of classic hits COULD happen on 107.5 after all. If Nassau no longer will own 99.9, they may see as an opportunity to turn their new property into the format of their former property. Could be interesting. 107.5 has a great signal into the Lehigh Valley. But 99.9's signal in Berks is marginal at best. Classic Hits could work for their benefit after all.

Access 1 will sweep WODE of it's inferior LV hack air talent. Goodbye

Classic hits on 107.5 sounds good to me! :) It sure would give Y102 some competition.

Funny, that "inferior air talent" a) have jobs at a real radio station and b) are on at the Valley's NUMBER ONE radio station!

No doubt they would all move on over to the powerful 107.5 signal.

And, I'm sorry....you said what station you were on?
______________

Often, when a sale is made, the seller has to commit not to compete with the buyer for a period of time (sometimes as long as five years). I doubt that 107.5 will become classic hits.

Nice post Bob and how true it is! The Hawk has the best talent in the valley. The basset hound sounds like a jealous wanna be that will never be. Go play with your Mr. michrophone Jimmy.

This sets it up for either Country or a flame throwing CHR like I was stating a few weeks ago.

I hear 107.5 is goin country at some point and Lite 107 will go urban.

as long as 999 does not become jack-99.9.i can't believe i'm saying this but....i hope the hawk stays on.yes i adjusted to the format cause of WKAP going oldies.ok so an all 70's format would or wouldn't work in the valley.not just classic rock.everything! any takers??? hummmmmm.

it's easy to speculate and throw unsubstantiated rumors around, but you're not officially in this business until your station has changed owners or you've had to navigate a management change. all I've gotta say is I hope people's jobs are safe. believe me, I'm as competitive as the next person, but when I'm out on the street and run into someone from another station, I have nothing but respect and understanding for them - they're my contemporaries. we're all just trying to do our jobs in our chosen profession and have a decent time while doing it. and you can definitely tell who the REAL people are at other stations when your workplace is up in the air - they're the ones who DON'T get involved in giddy talk and who DON'T call and say, "so, I hear you're all gettin' blown out." maybe people who actually work in the radio business shouldn't be reading these kinds of boards. LOL

on another note, the Jack format is the most asinine thing. anyone can set up a jukebox and throw some witty sweepers in. radio will never compete with iPods. it's just not the same kind of service. this is like the introduction of the Walkman or cable TV all over again. it's silly. let's not get all freaked out and let's not forget radio's strengths: a human connection, a local connection, and the ability to have a niche. once the novelty of Jack/Bob/Louie wears off, people will realize that they're listening through 8 songs they never cared about to hear one that they like and they'll feel duped.

In my mind, Nassau no longer has interest in the Lehigh Valley. That being said, I would fully expect 107.5 to become part of Nassau's efforts to break into Philly. The Hawk 97.5 and 107.5. Here's another question..I am going to assume that Nassau owns the trademark for the name "Hawk." Does that mean 99.9 has to change their name to something else even if it remains Classic Hits? Or...did the new owners get the name as part of the deal and Nassau will change the name of 97.5...maybe to Frank like in New England. or maybe "Franklin." After all, the name Ben is already in use....
I believe you can rule country out for 107.5 at this point. And a CHR is probably out of the question.

that's a good point....remember when WODE first flipped to Classic Hits and called themselves The River? I think by now they learned their lesson on THAT one. LOL. "The Hawk" wasn't even their first choice for a name.

I've still yet to see these WBYN rumors substantiated anywhere else, however, Lite 107 to Urban, or more likely Rhythmic CHR makes a ton of $en$e for Access.1

A 2 Share in the Allentown and Wilkes-Barre books (which is attainable) would make big $$$, considering the nearest competition demographically would be B104 and WKRZ.
______________

The name will remain.I'm hearing Access 1 may pay Nassau a fee to continue using the name. That would make sense. Also, it is my understanding that the current staff at The Hawk will remain there as part of the deal. I don't know much about what is going on up north other than Lite going over to urban somewhere down the line. I would think some staff changes may be in order for them. I don't see Joanne Geprge or Paul (whatever the hell his name is) doing urban. That will suck if they get booted but we all know how this half assed business is.

There is probably some "backroom winking/dealing" that says to me that wherever Nassau goes, so goes The Hawk. UNLESS....Access.1 makes a licensing deal w/ Nassau to retain the Hawk name.

107.5 The Hawk, don't be surprised. Especially with a nice long build-up, saying "starting {x-day}, the Hawk moves up the dial to 107.5FM".

And I suppose the construction stunt/loop that kicked off WNJO and WJHRs flip to talk makes it back on the airwaves.
______________
