Nassau-Suffolk January 2013 PPMs

I guess we'll have to see what the next round of ratings bring, but it seems 94.3 may have themselves a strong format in "THE SHARK".

Just saying: Q104.3 is beating WBAB, with "The Shark" gaining on them. Z100 is beating BLI. New york stations are beating the Long Island stations.

I sense some changes in the air to BAB soon. Especially if "The Shark" overtakes BAB.

Also, I think "The Shark" is riding the perfect wave. It comes onto the scene, carries some audience from 94X, mocks BAB, simulcasts News 12 during Sandy, has another rock station (WRXP, although a NY signal) get sold and turned to sports, and has decent promotion.

I see that they classify the shark as "rock" (as opposed to classic rock.) The newest rock they play is from 10 or more years ago. How is this not considered "classic"? Will Long Island ever have a commercial radio station that plays new rock? Or are we doomed to music for fossils on the commercial dial?

Wait a minute-- I happen to be a native Long Islander whose own footprints can be found on some of those fossils!

Long live the DEAD. Peace out...

Oh and way to go Shark! Nice to see you taking a bite out of BAB. ;D

So whats your beef with them?

They suck. They put me to sleep with the same grandpa rock day in day out.

C'mon dude, listen to another station, but thyre target listener is male 25 to 54......some of those people are grandpa's.....grandma's too. Sounds like you have more of an issue with them than that. because I think other stations suck and I dont bash them. just sayin

The station doesn't suck.. at all. It's the best one on LI, IMO. I love many of the bands they play (GreenDay, NIN, Radiohead, etc.) The problem is, they don't play any new music... at all! They have a small, unvaried playlist, and for the non-casual listener, this doesn't work. They need to play new music and lose the 80's metal and then they would be (just about) perfect.

And, by the way, I think Lenny Diana is doing is a great job! Hiring him was a wise move. It's a joy hearing him and Rob Rush every day. I wish them continued success (and my fingers are crossed that they expand the playlist at some point!!!!) :) Both are alum of WLIR so there is at least some hope of hearing new music at some point.....
