Things are certainly not good at 555 Sunrise Highway!

I think the Shark, despite it's 1.9 rating, took a decent bite (rimshot) out of BABs audience who put up with the limited amounts of 90s rock on BAB. Once they found the Shark, they ran away from BAB.

BLI dropped due to Santa coming over to WALK. BLI should rebound.

Just one question - why must a rock song be at least 10 years old in order to get airplay on LI? By the time songs from 2013 are old enough to play (in 2023) no one on Long Island is going to be familair with them.

In the case of WBAB, I guess it's Cox' way of working. No matter how they spin it, it's a classic rock station.

In the case of the Shark, I guess playing anything more recent might confuse the audience, given the confusing state of NY-area rock for years. Nevermind the fact there's plenty of stuff there that never got played on WRXP. When was the last time Avenged Sevenfold/Five Finger Death Punch got played in NYC/Nassau (I know WRCN further east now plays tracks like those).

That said, the demos must also have something to do with it.

First, nothing on the 94.3 frequency has come close to that audience share in years...if ever.

Second, among The Shark's Men 18-49 target, it was within two tenths of a share point of WBAB in the latest monthly. In September, BAB was ahead of The Share by nearly five full share points.

The station has made incredible progress in fourth months.

Lenny Diana as PD is certainly making his mark. New music may yet be coming. I find myself WANTING to tune in the shark. If they start breaking some musical ground I could see their listenership growing... there's a comfort in hearing music you're familiar with but there is an excitement in finding new stuff too.

Peter Puberty (as he was known during his internship at WDRE) has only been on the job for a few weeks so these ratings are not on his watch.

That being said, his background is certainly encouraging for those wanting to hear new music.

I'll post this here since there's not a new thread for the latest ratings yet. The Shark went up noticeably again to 2.7. That could be the highest rating I've ever seen for any format on that frequency.

In the January PPM data, The Shark is #1 among 18- to 34-year-olds, Monday-Friday 6AM-7PM.
