NASSAU-SUFFOLK (L.I.) ARBITRON RATINGS: MARCH 2011

Nice to see K-Joy maintaining its pace. Some real good and openminded radio people have gone through those doors to work. It's terrific to see that listeners appreciate the experience and professionalism.

As far as WHLI goes .... Whaaaa?!?!? They pick up essentially the same steady numbers in New York City's book now as they've done the past twenty years. But they're coming close to a point where they will get better numbers in a foreign book than they do in their own goshdarned survey. What gives?

Two things have ruined WHLI

1) PPM

2) The fact that they ditched the format for almost 3 years to do this "revivalist standards" format with songs and artists nobody was familiar with. They became too smart for the room and while the format is much better now, the barn door had already closed.

My suggestion is that WHLI move closer to being a pre-Beatles oldies station and hire Don K Reed. Sprinkle in more Doo-Wop. There is an audience for that (very loyal) and Don would bring them in. It's an older demo, but so is what's on now. As B-103 drops music, WHLI could pick it up.
