Natalie leaving KWNR mornings

When I first heard this rumor, I thought they fired her due to bad numbers. The one-man morning show (Rick Kelly) has been beating KWNR's 2-person morning show (Mark & Natalie) for the past 3 months in the P25-54 demo.

But then I heard she got another gig in Tulsa. Tulsa?!?! Is that a better situation at Clear Channel/Vegas? It must be pretty bad to get up and move to Tulsa!!!

Do you think CC will replace her? Allaccess is reporting that they are looking to replace hrt but who knows.

I'm partial to the Knotty Pine, west fifth street Tulsa......when you walk in you are suddenly in the fifties...Tulsa's actually a nice town, not what you think. And the economy there is great thanks to energy production...unlike NV currently.

When I visited Tulsa I ate at the Rib Crib. It's a regional chain based out of Tulsa and their food was delicious. Overall I thought Tulsa was a nice town.

As you would expect Country music is huge in Tulsa. So while Natalie is going to a smaller market compared to Las Vegas, she will be a big fish in a medium pond. Check out the ratings for KWEN. #1 FM station in Tulsa behind a co-owned News-Talk AM.

God knows why CC has held on to these two for as long as they did. They should've named her The Mother Teresa of Las Vegas radio for putting up with Mark every morning, sure she was a bit of an airhead, and how how she got the gig only Brandy the GM knows. I'm wondering how she got this gig in Tulsa but I wish her luck.

From what I know about the situation, KWEN is a top radio station in revenue and ratings. Cox pays well and she is probably getting a pay bump even though Tulsa is a bit smaller than Vegas. All of their stations do well in Tulsa plus it sounds like she is moving home. I do not remember ever hearing her on the air in Tulsa though.

Then you'll be sad to hear it burned down a few months ago. The are rebuilding though.

We are excited to have Natalie come to K95. She got the job because, quite simply, she was the best fit for the job. Not only is she getting a pay bump but since we also own the cable company, she'll get free Cinemax too! :)

We listened to several demos and 90% of them sucked. Natalie immediately hit if off with our morning show guy and there is great chemistry between them. It is amazing how well she fit in with the rest of the staff in such a short amount of time. Her previous employers had nothing but praise for her. We believe she'll do just fine.

Matt,

You've handled the armchair critics on this board with class. I've found mostly that people who hang out on radio boards are more "poser" than actual broadcaster. I'm sure that your attention has made them feel like they have some credibility and that they actually know what time it is in the industry. Keep spreading the love and remember you don't owe the clueless nay sayers squat.

It's funny that you picked this of all threads to make the rather common slam that participants on radio boards are clueless outsiders. I had two different people (both well respected industry pros) comment to me about this thread and they came to the exact opposite conclusion you did. They both mentioned the level of inside knowledge. The specific posts that you perceived as most offensive and hateful were most certainly from actual broadcasters, not hobbyists, fans, or any type of outsider.

Good call Jay F! Even though I don’t personally wish to reveal my identity, I can assure you that I am a radio professional here in Las Vegas working for one of the multi-station clusters. And I happen to know numerous individuals in our building and other broadcast facilities that also post on this board. I’m sure there are “posers” (as SteepleChase described) that post on the Nevada Board but I wouldn’t say that they are the majority. Jay, there is no doubt in my mind that you’re a true radio professional proven by the inside knowledge and intelligent insight that you provide. Honestly, I can’t imagine outsiders being all that interested in the topics discussed on this board.

Hey Matt! There's another great KWNR talent on the loose! Bob Bishop just became available. Really talented guy who hosted afternoon drive in Las Vegas for over 22 years. Any more openings there?
