Natalie to Leave Channel 5?

Today's Boston Herald interviews Natalie Jacobson about a report in Boston Magazine about her agent sending resume tapes to stations in-town.

As the Boston Magazine article details, both 'FXT and 'HDH newscasts don't really fit the Natalie persona. It mentions that 'BZ is looking to "go fresher and hipper." (Although that doesn't appear to be the case with Jack Williams and Bob Lobel recently re-upping with the station). NECN, the anchorperson retirement home, would surely like to have her.

Should Natalie decide to leave, it will surely change the landscape of Boston media.
 
I would agree with you except that the Boston TV market has already undergone that change if, as you say, CVB doesn't fit her style. On the other hand, I think she would be a shot in the arm for WBZ. Having Jack and Natalie together on the same desk would bring a certain journalistic integrity to the newscast, and a veteran look. The question is, would WBZ's viewers want that?

Chet or Tom and Natalie at NECN might be a better fit indeed.

Too bad WLVI doesn't have their own newscast anymore, she could have gone there...
 
WCVB letting Natalie go would be the dumbest move they could make in their 35 years on the air, I don't care how old Nat is.

Good to see familiar faces like Jorge Quiroga, Susan Wornick and Jim Boyd still there after all these years.
 
Clearly Nat doesn't need the money or the recognition so I can't imagine a reason why she would want to leave WCVB.....or the circumstances under which the station would not do what she wanted to keep her. I had the good fortune to meet her once and she is a class act in the best sense of the term.

And her daughter, Lindsay, who pretty much grew up on camera, looks darned good too. You can see her hugging Natalie in that report posted on thebostonchannel.com that bostonmediaguy linked in his reply above.

I guess ex-hubby Chet wasn't invited for the big news. I wonder if Chet or NECN will mention anything about it on-air. Or Channels 4,7, or 25? ::)
 
www.wbz.com (which is for WBZ radio) has a podcast interview with Natalie on it's front page about halfway down the page on the left hand side.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that Channels 4, 7, and 25 will all mention something about Natalie (in the spirit of "friendly competition" and "good luck" and all that) at the ends of their news shows next Wednesday evening which is Natalie's last time in the anchor chair.
 
WBZ's Jack Williams included a story about Natalie's resignation on both the 6pm and 11pm newscasts last night:

"It's an end of an era for Boston television as Natalie Jacobson of Channel 5 is stepping down from the anchor desk effective next week. [EDIT] We wish her the best with her new multimedia business."

Nice to see the competition commend her like that! How did they get permission to air that footage though? ???
 
My best guess is that WCVB made footage available. From a PR standpoint they don't lose and I can tell you from personal experience the folks at WCVB are a class act.
