Does every former pro footballer EXPECT to have a broadcasting career when the game's over for them? Then again, there always seems to be someone dumb enough in radio/TV management that values game knowledge and a "name" WAY above and beyond the concepts of vocal talent/finesse/resonance/control. That's how we got Joe Theismann. And Phil Simms. And Boomer Esiason. And Steve Young.
At lease Aikman took voice lessons, and it worked. (Anyone remember his former low, slow, deadpan, brain-damage-sounding voice in his earlier days on the Cowboys? You'd never know it was the same guy.)

Aikman can't communicate all that well either. I didn't know he used to be worse.

I've been really pleased with Daryl Johnston's broadcasting career, of course, he's always been bright and articulate.
If Aikman has a problem announcing because he is brain damaged, get him off of Fox NFL Football coverage and put him on the Fox News Channel where he'll fit right in.

No, when I tune in to a game I'd really rather hear John Houseman do color commentary than Dandy Don Meredith or Troy Aikman. Perhaps even The Master Thespian! Yeah! That's the Ticket!

I said, "WAY above and beyond"...that acknowledges the need for fair amounts of knowledge AND finesse. Don Meredith is a great example of one who had ALL of those. Knowledge of the game AND the ability to communicate AND to be animated AND to have one of the friendliest and most resonant voices in the game.The_X_Man_Cometh said:

It's called SPORTS-CASTING---to me, that person's resume should have equal amounts of sports AND broadcasting.

is to human beings. If you want an example of someone who is in the hall of fame and was solid as a sports analyst, look no further than NHL Hall Of Famer Ken Dryden who also graduated Cornell and McGill University Law School. Dryden was the color man with Al Michaels for the 1980 Miracle On Ice for U. S. A. Hockey in the winter olympics at Lake Placid. Dryden was the most educated, literate, intelligent athlete of all time and that came through in his hockey analysis.
On the other side you have all these ex Cowboys who sound like boobs.
