National AC Programming - same music on Clearn Channel stations nationwide??

I have noticed this weekend that numerous Clear Channel AC stations are playing exactly the same songs since midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. Stations include: WLIT, Chicago; WASH-FM, Washington, DC; KODA, Houston; KESZ, Phoenix; WMAG, Greensboro-Winston Salem, NC; KSNE, Las Vegas; WMJJ, Birmingham, AL; KISC, Spokane, WA; WLZT, Columbus, OH. KODA broke away at 5 AM from what seems like some sort of national feed. WASH-FM broke away at 6 AM. Some stations that seem to not be carrying this "national feed" are WLTW, New York; KOST, Los Angeles; WNIC, Detroit; WMGF, Orlando; KKCW, Portland, OR; WRVF, Toledo; KKLI, Colorado Springs.

Are Clear Channel stations airing some sort of national feed now on weekends?? I have noticed this on yes.com, but also confirmed via individual stations' Web sites. I have not previously seen this ever, even on weekends. Is this something that will continue into this next week, even on weekdays? Does anyone know anything about it?

I would think that this will be the future plan for all radio. Delilah and Tom Kent can be heard at the same time on more than one station covering a givin market. Maybe they can just call it a network. WRVQ in Richmond has only one local jock daily and WMTX in Tampa runs a four hour Tesh program twice dailey. I expect that CC will eventually have a national feed for each format they "serve".

I have noticed WLYT/Charlotte, NC and WMYI/Greenville, SC playing the same songs at the same time before, but I don't think it's a regular practice.

Clear Channel has a national programming system they call "Premium Choice". Stations don't necessarily have to take all of the offerings, but if the individual stations have to lay-off a number of people, they may have to. It's at least something for any and all to fall back on. I would think this is what you're hearing.

Even more stations are now using this -- I was wondering, what do you all think of it? I've heard it on Charlotte's Lite102.9 (who I think carries it all day) and WBBQ in Augusta GA (who carries it when Murphy Sam and Jodi, Delilah, and Tesh aren't on) and I don't like it.

It's a bit loud, IMO. They're playing What Goes Around...Comes Around by Justin Timberlake, Disturbia by Rihanna, Photograph, Gotta Be Somebody, and If Today Was Your Last Day by Nickelback, Hot and Cold by Katy Perry, One Step at a Time by Jordin Sparks, and Leavin' by Jesse McCartney. Keep in mind they go from Rihanna in to something like Breathe's Hands to Heaven or Richard Marx's Right Here Waiting.I just thought all of those songs were sort of odd. They never really charted on AC. Those songs are borderline Hot AC but they're still playing the traditional AC fare (lots of 70s) as mentioned above. Weird. Any thoughts??

Some of these ACs sound like totally different radio stations on the weekend because the music mix is so much hotter than what they normally play. Although the weekend might be the best time for these stations to turn up the tempo anyway since there is far less office listening than during the work week.

Yeah, I know. Most of the stations I know of carrying it are using it all the time except for syndicated times.

I don't think the concept is necessarily a bad idea, but they definitely need to tone this feed down. Just recently during the day I heard "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin?? They'll lose the office listeners, and a lot of the regular listeners. If they'd remove all of these I've mentioned, it would help greatly. If they're only game in town, they may get away with it, but if they have what I consider a typical AC station competing, they're going to have trouble. When it comes to new stuff, I stay stick to what charted well in AC, especially with how songs can be these days. You have to play the format pretty safe.
