National EAS Test is trimmed ...

That's what I was about to say, too, Powell. I think some units can do about 2-2.5 mins. I was wondering, really, what they could actually fill 3 mins with. Either the message cascades down the chain or it doesn't.

Doesn't this "national" test require a separate EAS unit and if so, wouldn't it have the required length capability?
I'm all for the shortened test...I can't imagine why a 3 minute test would be any better than a 45-60 second test.

The first annual test, the first ever with the President is scheduled this year for November 9th. I can assume the second annual test will be around the same time next year, days before the national presidential election. Coincidence?

Considering that (a) the president's name and voice won't be heard during Wednesday's test, (b) this year's test falls the day after election day, and (c) a test on November 9, 2012 would be three days after election day, then...yes, it's just a coincidence.

So, they shorten the time, but I still smell something. What is the true skinny? Why in the Flyin' Fudgecake are we having to run it anyway?
Smacks of a trap!
