National EAS Test Scheduled for 11/9

Are you sure the test on the left coast will be at 11 AM, and not delayed three hours?

And...what about the Mountain Time Zone? Will a station there be allowed to run a
16mm film print of the test a week late? ;D

As far as I know, it'll be live nationwide -- the only delay will be on most better aerial radio and television stations, where they can delay it electronically for up to an hour, as usual. But on cable, satellite, and on stations where everything is on autopilot, it'll be 2PM ET / 11AM PT sharp.

The President already schedules some press conferences that conflict with Rush Limbaugh's radio show as it is.

I'll be sure and tune my radio to 640. Or was it 1240? ;D

Bush and many other presidents prior to him and Obama scheduled midday press conferences. Why do so many people have a problem with it only because of Obama?

If it is scheduled @ 2, it will be over by 2:06. I will disrupt the top of the hour news.

As mentioned before, radio stations that are not totally run on autopilot can delay the test for up to an hour after it's transmitted live -- this way, news and Rush won't have to be bumped, and a test can be played during a commercial break.

So, 11/9 is the date I should prepare to DUCK AND COVER?

I have no idea where the nearest Civil Defense shelter even is. ???
No doubt, the crackers probably taste beyond stale.
They're probably petrified by now. :p

Does that mean my local channels will shut off for 5, on for 5, off for 5, on for 5, a 1000-hertz tone, then directing me to 640 AM? AWESOME! :D :D :D

Hmmm, maybe I better brush up on CONELRAD. Bill Cosby always
thought he was a heck of a detective.

Is it true that at the end of the test, an announcer will intone:
"This is EBS, the Emergency Broadcasting System (bee-doop)"?

No where do I see anything either in this story or the FEMA story that says a station can delay the EAS transmission. Why would they?

According to Federal law, the current EAS test standards allow stations to delay test relays for up to 60 minutes:

http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/tex...&view=text&node=47:1.0.1.1.12.4.237.1&idno=47

However, while the above applies to the usual monthly tests, I'm not sure if the delay allowance would apply to the national test, which only mentions delay allowances in areas experiencing bad weather:

Of course, it's all moot anyway because Harold Camping said the world was going to end for the last and final time on October 21, which is this Friday. ;)

I have already told my clients to be prepared to take back their audio chain if need be and shown them how to jumper around the various EAS boxes. If this "test" goes off without a problem, I'll be surprised.

I had a great uncle who was a County Civil Defense Director back in the 50's and 60's.
Used to scare the crap out of me as a kid when he'd come around talking about his job.
