I was on my way home from work, (Walworth to Lake Geneva, WI) at about 3:10-3:25pm local June 3, when I noticed DX coming in from MI & IN, so I scanned the band & found a station on 87.9 carrying a syndicated talk program. I think the host was Ed Schultz. There were also national ads (no local). The signal wasn't terrible strong, but I could hear at least some of it for the entire 11-mile journey. I was also getting interference from WLFM-LP on 87.75 from Chicago. The signal reception characteristics seemed like a fixed station, not an FM transmitter in a car on the same road.
Who could this be.
My first thought is a pirate. I don't think 87.9 is licensed by the FCC. That's also odd that a pirate would be running syndicated programs.
This is only the 2nd time I've even heard something on 87.9. I did hear a Spanish-language pirate on 87.9 about 11-12 years ago, in Waukegan, IL, but nothing since.
Very odd.
