National Weather Service,KDKA, Tornado Watch or Warning?

About 3:30pm The EBS or whatever it is called now came on KDKA during Rick Bergman's tradio program.
fancy recorded announcer"and now emergency news..blah blah blah.
sounder
finally cut into the recorded announcement from N.O.A.H or whoever.
the computer must have up cut the announcement.
you never heard all of the counties..a whole list but not allegheny.
..then Rick came on and said a tornado watch..for all of the counties and listed allegheny too
he ended with tornado warning or vice versa.
what is the difference between a watch and a warning.
I was driving in front of the federal court house grant street. as I looked at the guy in the car next to me he was talking to folks in the car next to him and talking on the phone.

1. so people may or may not be listening to the radio. (programming on the weekend is not too good, all computers it's the communication act of 1995's fault)
2. kdka is the real local station..live that warning system may have clipped off the front of the warning let's blame the government. everybody always does!!
3. Rick tried to do a good job...however I believe if there is a tornado warning..you keep on pounding it. I did break to get a fish at wholeys...but when I came back.. to the radio 45 minutes later I had to wait for the top of the hour weather.

ebs system gets a C-
Rick gets a B-
the rest of the radio community loaded with infomercials and automated weekend programming
D-. thank god KDKA AM had live local programming
hopefully the storm will pass and no one will be hurt..
let's fix this problem please

The "service" component disappeared a while ago. KDKA demonstrated that when they stuck with the regular paid programming during the February weekend snow emergency.

A watch means that conditions are favorable for a tornado (big snow storm, ice storm, whatever) to develop, so stay alert... while a warning means a tornado (or tornadoes) has actually been sighted and the threat is imminent.

I just want to know why KD-TV felt obligated to have John Burnett drone on for 45 minutes instead of showing the golf tournament.

Disagree totally. For those of us without power, KD was the only source for news and information. While they ran some of their regular sat morning programs, they cut in frequently with updates. As the situation got worse, they provided a valuable oppertunity for people to vent and share information.

I was listening on WPGB and heard the same thing. Announcement cut off just as the first county was being read. Suspect then the problem was with EAS and not KD.

Taking "I haven't seen a snow plow on my street" calls from cranky listeners isn't covering an emergency.
