Nations Top Biller,WTOP!!

Quite an accomplishment, being the highest billing station in the country and not being located in NY, Chicago or LA! The move to FM turned WTOP into a goldmine! :)

Just goes to prove that with an unlimited supply of Federal spending, the DC
market is totally recession-proof, and the best place to be given current realities.

A few things about this station: News/Talk is an exception to the "too many commercials" complaint. Listeners will sit through lots of commercials to get the information they want. This station is creative in the way they combine sponsorships and content. Everything is sponsored, so not all commercials are :30 pre-recorded spots. It's just a money machine, with no syndicated talk shows. They have a huge staff to support, so while it may be a top biller, all that money isn't profit. But they own all the content, and can (and do) repurpose it in multiple ways. And it's not like they have no competition. WAMU is also in the Top 10 with NPR news and talk 24/7.
