NBA Final Problems

Nowhere is it written that there should be a 2-day gap between games. I'm sure that this is for getting maximum ratings.

I personally don't care for these late starts (isn't it 8pm for Sunday though?), but those on the left coast, and there are many, will get to watch in early access/prime time. A win-win for ABC, I'd say.

cd

Agree on the start time, but not on the date. Game 2 should be tonight, game 3 should be Sunday in San Antonio.

Every league stretches their playoffs over way too many days. Perhaps the NHL is worst, but the NBA would be second

Being that ABC and the Eastern Seaboard Preference Network (ESPN) are one in the same, they'll just be kissing Lebron James' backside anyways. Put the games on any day they'd like to. I didn't watch a second of game 1 and don't plan on watching the rest of the Finals either.

Game 2 is 8PM on Sunday. They went with Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday since they wanted to maximize viewers. They used to have games on Fridays, and you all know how many people watch tv on Friday nights.

ABC moving it up on Sundays is a recent thing. I remember in 2006 a crucial game 5 started at 9 on a Sunday and didn't end until well after midnight.

This adds to the conversation how...?

How is the NHL the worst? Most of their games have only had 1 day gaps and games 6 and 7 have been on back to back days

The NBA playoffs actually drag out longer than the NBA, by two days. So I guess I owe the NHL an apology. Their playoffs must seem to last longer because I don't really follow their sport.

If I was king of the world, it would take 9 days to play a seven game series. Finals start on Saturday, finish the following Sunday.

The NBA playoffs start the next round before the previous one ends. The NHL doesn't.

Just because of the nature of the sport, the NBA and NHL only schedules games on back-to-back nights a few times during the regular season. It's not like baseball in this respect. But this playbook should be tossed out the window for the championship series.

The perfect scheduling for a seven-game series with a 2-3-2 format would have two days off for travel between games 2 and 3 and games 5 and 6, and back-to-back games 1-2, 3-4, and 6-7. I'm not a fan of the 2-2-1-1-1 format, which I believe both leagues follow for their postseason. In short, if the seven-game series goes the full length it should last less than two weeks.

But it's important to remember that MLB, the NBA and the NHL have ceded their postseason schedule-making power to their network partners. We all used to complain about World Series games starting after 8:30 PM Eastern, and in recent years MLB and Fox have done their best to fix that. But where's the complaints about NBA Championship Series (I refuse to call it the Finals) games starting after 9 PM in the East?

Isn't the Stanley Cup Playoffs late because of the limited (and late) season and how they had to do it this year?

This isn't really true. By my count, roughly half of the Indiana Pacers' regular-season schedule (40 games) was played as part of back-to-back or back-to-back-to-back games. Not like baseball where playing 7 games in 7 days is common, but I wouldn't expect 7 games (and likely fewer!) in 9 days to be a problem for the NBA's teams.

I wouldn't object to a schedule that played 7 games in 10 days to eliminate the back-to-back-to-back because that really is a rare thing in the NBA.

The NBA and the NHL don't want their postseason to end before June and the NHL/NBA/MLB don't cader to Local Stations like the World Series doesn't end before 10pm by starting the Game at 7pm same goes for NBA on ABC and Stanley Cup on NBC so Local Newscast can start at 11pm.

Another problem is MLB Draft is not held in Offseason and if ESPN and NFL Network were showing it they would show all 3 Days not ones as MLB Network does. Also if NBATV had a chance they would show the NBS Draft to live.

That's what I get for not really paying that close attention to the schedules, as I am not a big NBA person. Thanks for the correction.

And the point of all that, misspellings and all is...what?

Yup. The Strike. That did it. Things are a full two weeks behind this year as a result.

The Cup Final starts next Saturday. NBC's counting its lucky stars that the U.S. Open isn't on the left coast this year (though they could move game 1 to NBCSN if that were the case).

[/quote]"

With the Game 5 win by the Blackhawks, the Cup Final now begins Wednesday night on NBC. 2 and 3 are on NBCSN, with 4 and any "if needed" games on NBC.

I'm actually glad for this; for once the NHL has a good chance at ending the winter sports season for once, while the NBA will either get a four game sweep by the Spurs or a 7-gamer going to June 20 (Game five of the Cup would be the 22nd, which is probably likely).

I had been going by what my dish EPG listed, which is always an assumption. It was announced during the game that the Final would start earlier with a CHI win. Now we get a Finals game of some kind nightly (except Friday) for a week. Lots of Sport. Bring it on.

Win Or Go Home. Because It's The Cup (or the Trophy).

Game 1 is Wednesday at the United Center. The Finals would have started next Saturday if the Kings had won tonight, forcing a Game 6 in LA on Monday and a possible Game 7 on Wednesday. Games 1 and 4-7 will be on NBC, while Games 2 and 3 will be on NBCSN.

All Games should be on NBC because all World Series Games are on Fox and NBA on NBC but CBS just has March Madness and Super Bowl.
