First of all.....That's an NHL game. Not a College Basketball game. Secondly, ESPN/ABC had EXCLUSIVE rights to the NHL back in 1994 (They later went to FOX beginning with the 1994-95 season)
ESPN farmed out six weeks of their own coverage of NHL games to ABC from 1992-94. Even the actual NHL on ABC package consisted of a lot of similar time buys, but that was different presentation from ESPN.

So in the early 1990s, ABC produced its own sports (MNF, golf, WWoS) and had some ESPN telecasts at the same time (NHL).

That's because ABC had a sports department under its own umbrella. They don't have that now as everything is now under the ESPN umbrella

I just really don't care. The Hornets left town because they didn't get their updated arena. Charlotte spent millions to build a new one to get the Bobcats and they imploded the 18-year-old coliseum which could have been upgraded if someone had truly wanted to do it. and the developers who did that rather than converting it to offices or something still haven't put anything there.

And all this because Alonzo Mourning couldn't settle for a paltry $10 million a year.

Now the new arena is hosting the Democratic Convention, which might not have happened in the old one since it wasn't downtown, and yet sometimes I wonder if this convention is really a good thing.
 
I'm a NBA fan myself, and been one of most my life. I can tell you that the longer this lockout lingers on, the less interest I'll have. Isn't the same like the NFL lockout, where you knew that fans were more anxious to get the season going...and luckily, their labor situation was settled in time for the preseason to start (although they only missed one week--the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio).

However, as a sports fan overall (baseball, football, basketball in particular), at least I'll have the NFL, NCAA basketball and football, and even a little hockey to keep my interests. I'm not a hardcore hockey fan, but I do watch games occasionally, and I love the passion of the players and even the fans. That, and as a guilty pleasure, tuning in most Saturday nights to see what "pimp" outfit Don Cherry is wearing on Hockey Night in Canada.

Either racing or simply turn the time over to the affiliates. An example is KMGH 7 here in Denver who broadcasts weekly High School Football games on Sundays

After football season, I suspect that will shift over to High School Basketball games instead

But ABC telecasts of sporting events go through ESPN. Therefore ABC would be immune from any gripe CBS might have

Now if Fox were to do something like that, CBS would have a case (But it's doubtful Fox would put itself in such a position because they'll have NASCAR shortly after the College Football season ends anyway)

The smartest thing ESPN/Disney could do if the NBA truly does go boobs up this season is bring back ABC's Wide World Of Sports. I'm dead serious.

While I won't say it would be THE smartest thing they could do, it certainly wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility though.....

That said, I seemingly remember a day when they didn't have the NBA or the NHL, so.....

Well, Here's a no-brainer; Show some NCAA games on NBA-TV. The 2011-12 NBA Season might as well be cancelled. I think people will be turning their attention to Hockey. Also Wrestling is also starting to become more popular in arenas now these days with The WWF.
 
^I still like to think of World Wrestling Entertainment as the World Wrestling Federation or the WWF. It was a more interesting and unique name.

It's a rights issue. NBA TV would have to acquire those games, if they don't already have a contract. That most likely would include negotiations with the NCAA and the originating networks. It's not as easy as just pick up the tape and slap it on the air.
 
I, for one, won't miss the thuggery, including the ongoing "How does my *** taste?" comments between Kobe and Shaquille.

Theres about to be a lot of unpaid child support piling up.

I do feel badly for the concession workers who won't be getting paid for not selling those $9 beers and $7 pretzels.

If you aren't happy with a 50/50 split, get lost.
 
I think The NCAA has a contract with CBS & Turner Sports, and with NBA-TV, (Which is partially owned by TBS Networks & Headquartered in Atlanta) I don't think there's no chance any of The NCAA games won't be carried by NBA-TV whatsoever. This contract only applies to the NCAA March Madness-A win or go home basketball tournament. And I think The NCAA to be shown on NBA-TV has been ruled out.
 
For one thing, I couldn't care less. In fact, I hope that the blow the whole season away.

Why? Because perhaps it would help to give more exposure to a fantastic, yet under-appreciated sport: hockey. After football, hockey is my favorite sport to watch. The athletes are very talented, playing a fast-moving game that requires more strategy and skill than the casual observer may appreciate. The NHL is fun to watch, and the minor leagues (AHL, ECHL, CHL, etc.) are equally entertaining - yet quite affordable.

And, having met players from the NHL and from the minor leagues, these guys are as polite and nice off the ice as they are tough on it. They're nothing like the classless thugs that have taken over the NBA.

Anyhow, I don't miss the NBA. Maybe a nice long absence will teach them some humility.

^The initials may not have been unique prior to the change to WWE, but the full name of the wrestling organization was interesting and unique.
