NBC 10 News in HD: when will it happen

Any word as to when NBC 10 (WCAU) will broadcast its news broadcasts in HD?

According to NBC10 sources NBC 10 is in the process of evaluating vendor equipment and will make a
decision soon. Their projected launch of HD news is scheduled for the Fall of 2008.

A "little late" only because I hear NBC is pretty much hurting for money these days. That's what they get for slipping in the ratings during prime-time. *heh*

I hope WFMZ beats them just to add a little more salt to the wounds. ;D

Two years ago, NBC flagship O&O WNBC in New York was drooling with HD. The station's identity changed to "NewsChannel 4 HD" and touted they were the first local newscast to use the technology.

That may still hold true, but as of today, they're no longer "4 HD"; it is "4 New York".

Channel 10 just looks, to me, like it needs to be freshened up. The graphics seem bland , and their studio has lost it's luster. Please get rid of that huge Earthwatch desk!

That doesn't mean they're not in HD still, the "4 New York" branding has been around for awhile, it was the most popular back in the 90s. NBC 4 had just gotten a new director..they're refreshing the image because they've been slipping in the news ratings.

I suspect that during the 2008 Olympic period would be a good time to upgrade their studios and newsroom. Their live studio programming should be limited during the two week period beginning August 8th.

Rather sad. Bot fox and comcast sports net (in studio) beat them.

I wonder if they're still gonna air that ad about being the first to do things in Philly?

CN8 has already upgraded master control and it's Philly studio to HD. No bandwidth to fit the channel on their systems yet. NBC 10 WILL be the last in town to go HD. 'PVI will have their new studio built before 10 upgrades. The news set has become an eye sore to me, for the most part, it hasn't changed since the '96 summer Olympics.

Digidan---"you and me both" on the comment about 10's set. You're right...except I'll give them this...they did away with the large video wall for he smaller monitor to the left of the news desk.
I don't quite understand what's up with the powers-that-be over there. Their news is stale, the presentation is boring, the reporters are for the most part---UNDER-rate small market types...never could stand Tim Lake being in the primo spot. He's more of a "weekend talent" in my opinion. Nothing personal, just my opinion. They don't seem to be as aggressive as they once were and just put simply: THEY ARE BORING TO WATCH. PERIOD.

WFMZ isn't as far off to HD as you may think--Dick Dean literally just has to "flip a switch", so to speak.

I'm guessing HD will be in WFMZ's future within a few weeks. Some boo-booed tonight during the 10pm broadcast and played the new talent bumper coming back from break. Also if you look at the control room webcam on their website new monitors have been installed towards the middle of the control panel.

The AM news just seems to drag, and please get rid of those awful one year old birthdays!

Nobody freaking cares

I would hope NBC corporate management has taken note of NBC10's performance and hopefully do something to improve their appearance when they originate in HD. Apparently beginning Monday they are returning the 4PM Newscast to their lineup.

It sounds like all they did was flip news at 5 with that...um, however you describe it, "All That & More." So instead of being clobbered by Oprah, "All That" will be decimated by Action News. (And Dr. Phil...and who knows, maybe even "According to Jim" over on channel 17.)
