NBC 30 breaks ground 4 new building

Well it's about damn time! I often wondered why with WVIT-TV/DT...Why were they never located within the city limits of Hartford proper? Is it because of New Britain being their city of license? Channel 30 is in a suburb. Channel 3 is now in a suburb after being in Hartford for 50 years. Is WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 the next to leave?

P.S. I love how they have a New Britain Avenue mailing address when their driveway is actually on Ridgewood Road!

I remember the front of the station facing a real street before I-84 was constructed in the late 60s. I believe that street is or was New Britain Avenue.

The station ID'd itself as either West Hartford-New Britain or New Britain-West Hartford when it was WKNB in the 60s. I don't remember when they dropped the West Hartford. The station has better visibility across from West Farms and the other shopping areas, than 8 and 61 have in their downtown cities and 3 has in Rocky Hill. Staying in the same spot is a good thing.

Doesn't seem to help them in the ratings though.

I know alot of companies move out to the suburbs for cheap land. But you'd think the television channels with news operations would want to be in the city, since most of the news and most of their live shots are in Hartford. Very little news-worthy goes on in the suburbs. Especially since Hartford has the state capital and most state operations. Just seems like a waste to be out in the suburbs.
