NBC 40 question

Well not all of South Jersey has it. A smidge of SE Cumberland County which should be NBC 40 worthy territory, which happens to be where I live, does not get 40.
Channel 40 has been an NBC affiliate for over 40 years. Networks don't often pull affiliations of that long a standing.

NBC10 and NBC40 do co-exist
Hammonton is in Atlantic County yet isn't able to get WMGM-TV. Also, WCAU didn't become an NBC O&O until 1995.
A side note: "NBC 40 question" sounds vague. Please be more specific when posting a title for a thread.

WMGM NBC 40 came on the air in '65 as WCMC-TV. It was in B&W, except for network programming. It was given an affiliation with NBC because at THAT time, Ch3 WRCV had a real hard time making the trip to the shore from Lafayette Hills. So WCMC got the NBC knod because it was just a low power signal.
Remember...the station is licensed to Wildwood, Cape May County...deep in the state. Here's a shot of the studios before the TV sign-on, when it it was just WCMC AM/FM, during the March Storm of '62. It's from Tom McNally's site.

Comcast Hammonton/Vineland carries WMGM 40 on Ch.99. Comcast in Pleasantville (serving most of Atlantic County) and Comcast Wildwood (Cape May County) carries WMGM on Ch.4.

Isn't Ch. 3's stick on the hilltop in Roxborough? If so, how long has it been there?
And closer to the topic, in the mid-'80s I drove by WMGM's phone booth of a studio on Sea Isle Blvd. in Swainton a couple of times. The studio and stick were right in the middle of the wetlands just of the GSP. Is Ch. 40 still in that building? As for Ch. 40 being black and white, I read where they stayed that way until some time in the late '70s/early '80s.

NBC moved WRCV's tower from Wyndmoor to Roxborough in 1957. Part of the reason Channel 40, then WCMC-TV, was able to get the affiliation was the bad blood between NBC and Westinghouse. WCMC-TV signed on less than a year after the Justice Department to reverse the Philly-Cleveland station swap.
The NBC 40 studios moved to 1601 New Road in Linwood in 1990.

It's the same out here in central, and western Chester county. We are in the Philly market, but comcast has WGAL from Lancaster on the cable system(WGAL is also an NBC afiliate). I think it has something to do with the physical location of the station. In Chester county we are physically closer to WGAL, thus comcast has to put it on the system, so we end up with both WGAL, and WCAU. If I'm wrong about this please correct me.

The structure in Swainton is/was being rebuilt/enlarged to acommodate the new HD transmitters. New power needs for xmtr's and air-conditioning meant new Atlantic Electric feed lines. It will still house WZXL-FM transmitter and antenna on the WMGM-TV tower.
