NBC/9 (just a prediction)

Wrong and wrong...

They can't move it to Needham. Too close to 9 and 11.

I don't think that WWDP signal is as good as you think it is. Evidence suggests VHF signals don't so well digitally in a number of cases.

With digital, there are no more adjacent channel taboos. Look at channels 12 and 13 on the same tower. Also, high band VHF is the MOST DESIRABLE spectrum for DTV! Why WJAR ever gave up channel 10 for channel 51 made no sense. Channel 51 is one of the WORSE channels you can have-it's the very TOP UHF channel that's left.

No, it is you who is wrong. According to CFR 73.623, adjacent DTV channels must be at least 110 km (68 mi) apart. However, adjacent channels are also allowed if they are within 20 km (12.5 mi) of each other in the Northeast, or 23 km (14.25 mi) elsewhere. That is why adjacent channels on the same tower are allowed. Channel 9's antenna is located just outside Manchester, approx. 50 mi (80 km) from Needham. Channel 11's antenna is located near Deerfield NH, approx. 60 mi (96 km) from Needham. That puts Needham in the taboo zone for both channels.

dhett already corrected the first half of your message.

WJAR could not move back to 10 because of WTNH-DT and WEDN-DT. A directional pattern that cuts power in the direction of Providence is probably a bad idea for a station licensed to Providence.

Channel 51 is a lot easier to receive on an indoor antenna than any channel 10 signal. The more time goes on and the more reception reports I read, the less true I think the "most desirable" statement about upper-VHF is.
