NBC apparently not clear on Megyn Kelly show direction

If this story is correct, NBC seems a bit lost on the direction of the new Megyn Kelly Today Show.

http://pagesix.com/2017/09/25/nbc-insiders-confused-by-megyn-kellys-new-show/

I have watched the first two episodes, and am less than impressed. The first show was a lovefest with NBC, about 90% NBC promotion with the cast of Will & Grace, and Today hosts. Today's show was a little more balanced but still seemingly all about Kelly, her personal relationships, etc. which I, as a viewer, don't give a crap about. But to be fair, it is early and she deserves more time to make this show work.

She shouldn't be on morning tv, and it's obvious that they are trying to give her a new, more likeable, image. If they still use "Q" factors, i'd love to know what her's were at fox and now at NBC.

I'm interested as to how her show will handle any breaking news that may happen during the show? Part of me thinks they would end up having Matt and/or Savannah do a special report, but with Megyn's journalist background, I wonder if they'd have her do some of it as well?

It also airs at 9AM Pacific, which obviously means it is 3 hours old. Breaking news would be likely from the primary anchors, but perhaps Megyn might still be hanging around 30 Rock. Though I think the show has made it clear this is NOT a news show.

And that's why she should have stayed with Fox. She's not going to change. She will probably double-down, like most of her kind tend to do when confronted with facts they don't like or understand....

Didn't Fox offer her more money than NBC? I read that they (Fox) were going to pay her between $20-$25 million. Yet she left for $15-$18 million. I don't understand the reasoning.

According to her book, she felt there was a toxic atmosphere at Fox. Plus she hated working nights. It kept her away from her kids.

I think NBC has somewhat a problem on their hands with this new Megyn show. Though it is still early. But my thought is Megyn was hired to do some biting political commentary, (afterall this is what she was known for), but her show has branched out in an entirely different direction. Watch as NBC tries to reign her in, (or not), and the result is unknown at this point. Another "feel-good, real people stories" seems to this viewer as too little, too late. But that is just me. I hope NBC can find a smart direction for her show.

What in the heck is "her kind?"

And yes the show airs at 9 am PT as well. Just as Today (and its peers) air at 7 am PT. That doesn't make them not news programs.

No one is looking for "biting political commentary" at 9AM. Even on the cable news channels. They're looking for cooking shows and interviews with celebrities. Apparently, she understands that, and is trying to soften her image. All she really has to do is what the other Today hosts do, just in her style. Maybe she needs a co-host.

I tend to agree with your 9 AM summary. However, CNN goes totally political at 9 AM Pacific, though it is noon eastern. But the bigger problem in my mind is you have a lot of 9 AM shows competing for this "lifestyle" audience, such as "Harry", (which I can't believe is still on the air, but that is just me), Kelly and Ryan (OK, and getting better), and now Megyn doing similar programming. It is a tv wasteland IMO, but I guess these shows are doing something right, just not my cup of tea. I will always separate my personal opinion of what works, but I do tend to have a good sense of when something is not working. And "Harry" and "Megyn" are not working IMO. Again giving Megyn the benefit of the doubt because of the newness. I am open to letting some of this simply play out.

Megyn Kelly has a studio audience which is very unusual for the 'Today' franchise. I wonder if they pull the Today fans outside into the indoor studio? Again, I couldn't believe Harry made it to season 2 knowing he's got pretty mediocre ratings compared to the powerhouses like Ellen DeGeneres.

What in the heck is "her kind?"

The kind that refuse to listen to differing opinions and believe that they are always right [pun can be accepted here], even in the face of facts.

You do know that applies to some people on both extremes of the political spectrum, right?

She had a specific show to do on FOX News. She has a different show to do on NBC. Let’s see how she does that rather than judge based on what another employer wanted out of a program on its schedule.

I assumed (yeah, I know) that Megyn 'forced' Fox News' hand to put her on prime time, even though it would upset their ultra-popular lineup. I can see that one you achieved your dream, it might not be exactly what you thought it would be. Megyn realized the time wasn't conducive to raising a family they way she wanted.

And true enough, NBC stuck with their main anchors during today's Las Vegas breaking news. Megyn Kelly nowhere to be found in the 12 noon EDT, 9 am PDT. This seems to be confirmation that Megyn will not be utilized for breaking news. Wow.
