Anyone else notice the interesting image changes launched this week on channel 17's local newscasts?
It appears that the NBC affiliate has dumped its old Clear-Channel Television graphics packages.
The new look has a very crisp "O&O" style and feel, a-la KNBC, KNTV, KNSD etc. The new theme music incorporates the familiar NBC chime, and very apparent incorporation of the Peacock logo and other style elements usually used with the actual O&O stations.
Channel 17 (under its new ownership by High Plains Broadcasting & managed by Newport Television) seems to be embracing its network affiliation with NBC to a much greater extent than was previously evident under its prior management under former owners Clear Channel (and Ackerly before that.) So perhaps someone out there can answer this question: were these recent changes mandated by NBC for their affiliates, or was this simply KGET's own way to update and refresh its on-air news image and bring things more in line with their NBC-owned sister stations?
While it's nice to see these graphical improvements, it should be noted that KGET is still using the same bland studio and set, so not much excitement there. Also the station (and all the other Bakersfield, CA TV stations) still don't produce or broadcast any local HD programming or news. (But they *do* air HD network shows in their native HD formats.)
Anyone out there care to "chime" in on these issues?
