NBC Bay Area

This appears to be a new graphics package for all the NBC O&O stations. I tuned into KNBC in LA and they are using the design as is WMAQ in Chicago and WNBC. But what makes NBC Bay Area unique is the 11 has gone away. There are also unconfirmed rumors that Fox may buy KNTV Channel 11. So the question is will Fox 11 be something we may hear and what about NBC Bay Area where will they pitch their tent?

I'm wondering if "NBC Bay Area" means that NBC is going to buy KRON and move NBC programming to Ch. 4.

It certainly appears to be looking that way but you talk with many in the business and they continue to reiterate and say NBC is not buying any stations they are selling their O&O stations. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens....

And the circular KRON speculation machine begins another circle...spinning endlessly round-and-round into infinity....

Infinity? Are you saying that the company now known as CBS Radio is buying KRON? ;D

No - I'm speculating that KNTV will become a new high-end Nissan automobile. Actually, I guess that's "Infiniti" with an "i." ???

Seriously though - how about some sensible speculation, such as: nothing is happening except that KNTV is re-branding...along the lines of "CW Bay Area" (44) and "The Bay Area's WB" (TV20 before the WB went away).

Think about it - a small minority of people these days receive KNTV over the airwaves on Channel 11. Most people either have Comcast, where its on Channel 3...unless you have HD, then its on 703; or satellite, where I'm sure its on different channels depending on whether you have AT&T. Direct TV, or Dish Network. It's becoming confusing. In terms of locating KNTV, the number "11" means nothing to most people anymore.

It simplifies things for KNTV if they brand as "NBC Bay Area."

Jeez...it seems like every time NBC does anything, no matter how unrelated, it means they're buying KRON.

Not that I disagree that a substantial percentage of viewers pick up KNTV from a non-traditional method, you probably should not discount the fact that DTV has given marginal stations such as KNTV a respectable presence over the air. Channel 11.1 is crystal clear over the air in the East Bay and many times the source is HD. It doesn't take Comcast at $80/month to get great pictures, even for a signal which is coming a fair distance away.

I don't want to turn this thread into a debate about the merits of cable and satellite...but...I can receive both KNTV and KICU over the air without an antenna. But I live in a marginal reception area (in San Francisco), and nothing ELSE will come in. I'm out of the line of sight to the Twin Peaks Tower. KNTV's transmitter is on San Bruno mountain directly to the south of me, so it comes in fine. So does any signal from San Jose...so I could actually get KNTV before their transmitter relocation.

But it's 2008, not 1958, and I have no intention of living in a two channel world. So yes, I do need to pay Comcast. Most people pay for cable and satellite these days for the variety of channels that are provided, not for reception. I spend probably 80% of my viewing time these days on cable - HBO, CNN, CNBC, AMC, USA, FX and many others. And I'm addicted to On-Demand...otherwise, I'd consider satellite. Sure, I'd like to pay less for cable, but it's worth it.

Hope nobody from Comcast is reading this...they'll raise my rates again...

I get KNTV via satellite on Dish Network and it looks great with or without the HD look, I think that KNTV is trying to move into a new direction as the fact that I miss the old look, this look is great. I can also get KICU and KBCW 44 Cable 12 and Sacramento's KMAX CW 31 Cable 12. It's nice to see it on HD as it looks great.

I have DirecTV and it is on Channel 11

Those are also rumors anyway. It could be the other way around--NBC is concentrating on the top 10 markets. The reason they sold WTVJ and WVIT is that they are in lower rated markets.
