LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Steve Carell is looking at a big raise when he returns to "The Office" in the fall.Sources said the per-episode fee for "The Office" star will more than double next season to the neighborhood of $175,000.He also is said to be looking at a flexible filming schedule with two hiatuses to accommodate his burgeoning feature career. The renegotiated terms of Carell's deal do not include extending the duration of his original contract, sources said.
The US "Office" is a bad immitation of the real thing, the BBC "Office." And much of the reason is Carell is not a pimple on Ricky Gervais. NBC has watered down a great show and turned it into just another sit-com. Carell should have his salary cut. And what's this giving him more money BS? If NBC had cajones, they'd go to court. He shows up for work or he doesn't work for anybody - and doesn't get paid by anybody. NBC can always find actors; Carell only has one career.

::) You have the right to your opinion but I happen to love the show. I plan to watch season 3 each Thursday. :)

I tried watching one episode of the British version from my PBS, but couldn't understand the British accent. Maybe I'd need the DVDs. I like the NBC version. I like Jim, Pam, Dwight, and the others as well. Kinda sucks for them and the rest of the crew that they have shortened schedules (instead of 22 episodes, probably less episodes..and less work, less pay result) b/c the show caters still more to the main actor who wants to fit in movies. Then again, its quality not quantity. Rather the season be fewer episodes without bad ones.

This thread runs the risk of becoming a referendum on the merits of taking a British sitcom and Americanizing it. It's only been happening for decades. For some, it's going to turn into the perfect scenario ... a way to gripe no matter what. It's straying too far from the original British concept! Of course it is, because it's airing in America, and not trying to appeal to British sensibilities. It's so unoriginal - just copying off of a British idea! Yeah, and once it stopped being nothing but a reassignment of slang terms and locales, you'd gripe there too.I find it humorous, and I also find it cutting a little close to home, having a job in an office setting. Just be glad it's scripted television.

You act as if this TV show is the only thing Steve Carell has going in his life. Are you aware that Carell starred in this little movie entitled "The 40 Year-Old Virgin" last summer? It grossed a mere $110 million. According to IMDb, he is in the process of filming no less than SEVEN movies during the next year and a half. His one career is doing just fine. If NBC wants him badly enough, they'll pay him. If not, I think he'll be OK financially as he's got plenty of work to do.

I know what else he has done. This is David Caruso on NYPD Blue all over again. Carell is talented but his head has gotten too big for the small screen. If NBC tied him up in litigation, he wouldn't be making any more movies for a while and in the future actors would honor their contracts. The only actor on the US version as good as (or better than) the British equivalent is Dwight. The BBC actors are perfectly understandable, although you do have to pay attention.

That's really not that much money for NBC. I mean look how much they paid the stars of Friends, Cheers, Fraiser, etc....

Boy, that seems like a lot of money that NBC is spending for The Office!

1. Flintstone, take a chill pill. The U.S. version has little to do with the British version...most likely because one has American viewers and one has mostly British viewers. Duh. Different show, different writers, different characters, etc. 2. You have seen NBC's ratings lately, haven't you? The Office is definitely one of the few shows that NBC has going for it, and they're going to have to play ball if they want to keep its biggest star happy. Carell doesn't need 'The Office' when Hollywood is willing to bankroll his next project. Last I checked, Universal Studios was part of 'NBC-Universal'. Up his 'Office' pay and sign him to make movies for your studio. Shouldn't be that difficult to placate the guy.

The difference between opinion and fact.FF's Opinion - The Office is a bad show and not funny.  Thinks That Steve Carrell isn't worth it.Fact - The Office is hugely critically acclaimed.  One of, if not the, highest rated NBC show.  Steve Careel won The Golden Globe for Lead Actor.

This is the most ignorant thing I have read today. At least so far.Stay tuned to see if you win the daily prize.Obviously the news of actors getting a raise on a show they're a star of is breaking news to you. It's been happening...gee, I dunno...possibly since TV programs have been produced.... ::)

I'd say that Jim Carrey has been riding that "one trick pony" successfully for quite a long time now..No reason Steve Carrell can't..
