I guess people have forgotten the promise of more programming, and more channels, if we got this HDTV system? Here's a thought, why don't the affiliates put some original local programming on. No, wait. That would cost money...never mind.

Why not air some stuff from the archives that are gathering dust?
You forget my friend - That too would cost $$$.

And we all know the big corporate conglomerates would just assume pay the FAT salary of their CEO just so they can screw up YET AGAIN & put Wall Street YET AGAIN in a position where it puts the President in a position where he has to go on live TV to tell us to fear the The Great Depression II while Wall Street begs Congress for YET MORE of OUR $$$ rather than doing a frivolous thing like what you suggested above.

Sorry for the short political rant, but sadly, it's the truth. :(

Just my opinion....

Cheers :)

Pat

Cheers :)

To be fair, it's easy to spend someone else's money. Successful models for the subchannels probably will emerge over time, but it won't happen at the drop of a hat. Some of the filler there now may end up being what paves the way for a more robust model as people gradually come to know about the channels.

Of course, but if you already have it set up, wouldn't it be a simple case of pulling a feed out of your audio and video DA feeding the cable company and feed it to your HTDV exciter?

I meant the cost of the productions themselves (or of paying for syndicated content, depending on your strategy). For the most part (and I'm sure we can all find exceptions), stations aren't bloated with people twiddling their thumbs all day. You need to find the crew, talent, production staff, etc. Just because you have news talent doesn't mean they're not already busy off the air doing anything from web work to preparing for the next broadcast.

From a viewer's standpoint, it might be great to see some added localism, but let's temper idealism with reality. You would be hard pressed to get a positive return on investment for quite some time employing a strategy of primarily original local content.
