NBC MOVES 30 ROCK & OUTSOURCED TO 10PM (JAN 20)

This will be the first time since 1991 a network comedy block has been in the 10PM slot. The entire Thursday night will be a comedy night on NBC. Some are wondering if 10PM will work? I think it will.

This also shows NBC's gumption to stand behind "Outsorced" which they appear to be grooming to be the next "Office". The show is not quite there yet, but continues to slowly get better and has steady and respectable ratings. Following "30 Rock" surely won't hurt it.

Some feel their Thursday night schedule could be in a better order, maybe that's why this will be their
new schedule Jan 20th.

Community - Perfect Couples (new show) - The Office - Parks And Recreation - 30 Rock - Outsourced

If I'm not mistaken, cable networks like TBS and FX have found success airing comedies in that time period (i.e. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia)

I'm glad to see that at least one broadcaster is willing to put aside traditional thinking/programming patterns and try something new.

Don't many of these Thursday NBC comedies rate highly with DVR +7 Nielsen viewing? They are the type of shows that apply to a demographic that probably time shifts programming more than other demographics, so this is hardly taking a huge risk.

Wn't affect me thanks to TiVo.

It is weeks before I watch "30 Rock", though. I don't have time and when I can squeeze it in, my brain isn't ready for it. It requires too much work to watch. This is why it has to be taped.

But having highly time-shifted viewing in that time period does present one problem (and it's one of the main arguments against having 30 minute shows in that time period):

If so much of the audience is time shifting a program, then how much of an audience remains to watch the affiliates' late local news (which consists of nearly 100% live viewing?)

For the record, NBC itself did this last year with the advent of "The Jay Leno Show." ::)
