NBC News Airs Dubious "Story"

In the news break during "The Last Word with(out) Lawrence O'Donnell (his mother died last weekend)" on MSNBC Thursday night, August 18th, the announciatrix reported "exclusively" that Moammar Kadafy (I'm not even going to try any other spelling) would leave Libya with his family in the next few days. It was repeated on the crawl during "Morning Joe" today (Friday). I haven't seen corroboration by any other news organization. I don't know whether it was mention on the "Today Show".

Numerous media outlets have reported this around the world, but as far as I can tell, they all point back to the original NBC News report.

There have been many "general" reports that Qadaffi is seemingly surrounded, but nothing as specific as a statement that he and his family are about to leave the country. It was all over NPR's "Weekend Edition/Saturday this morning.
