NBC news-new announcer?

CBS obviously thinks people care.

"Hi, I'm Walter Cronkite, and I endorse this message."

So, for NBC:

"Hi, I'm Micheal Douglas, and I support the Hollywood-ization of this newscast"

Brian says it's Michael Douglas. Why?

Because Howard Reig left in 2005 and they have been using old voice tracks of him ever since. Douglas might need the extra money, because I believe it's been well over a decade since he was actually in a hit movie.

Did Don Pardo turn down the Job?

"And now Nightly Update with Brian Williams... brought to you by Reincarnation... the evaporated milk that comes from dead cows!"

Boy... I know NBC has been on hard times lately, but wow...

This is more of the liberal media going Hollywood. You would expect that NBC would be more pro-America since they are owned by a great company called GE. GE makes all sorts of things that help our troops all over the world, but their TV network is a bunch of liberal anti-war garbage. It is a shame.

anti-war garbage. It is a shame.
Yeah, what a lousy concept. Selectively finding and killing our enemies, rather than years of war to construct new governments in a nutcase islamic corridor.

Back to reality: The new set and need for a new voice just happend to come up after Gibson/ABC took the ratings lead.

I wasn't that impressed by the new voice-over... and I liked the old set better, too. But perhaps I'm being too negative.

I highly doubt Douglas did it because of financial problems. I'm sure the guy is loaded. It's a prestige voice job, easy to do, and one wouldn't be considered a 'sell-out' for doing it. Probably the same reason James Earl Jones did it for CNN.

And he's also got a good voice. Haven't heard the new intro yet, but I'll check it out.

A woman like Catherine Zeta-Jones is probably not a cheap date. What they about a mistress applies even more to wives: It's not the initial cost, it's the upkeep. Having a beautiful woman can be more expensive than owning boat (it may even require owning a boat).

I doubt it too. It was a huge trend just a few years ago for big stars to do commercial voice-overs. I seriously doubt any of them needed the money. Advertisers want people with natural sounding voices, not DJ type announcers, and actors can sound natural because they're...actors. Even if you're rich, its probably hard to resist the easy money voice-overs can bring in.

The trend has kind of ended now, but you still hear big names doing voice-overs. Gene Hackman still does commercials for Lowe's Home Improvement Centers. He hasn't done many movies lately, but he probably just wants to take it easy at this stage in his life. Unless he was a bad investor in his big-star days, I'm sure he's still rich.

What was NBC thinking?????

If he auditioned for this gig....without anyone knowing who he was.....He would have gotten a critique sent back to him which would read...." Sorry sonny....please reapply when your voice changes and while you are at it....see a good ear, nose and throat doctor to help you with the nasal quality of your voice."

Douglas is an excellent actor.....announcer no...............

Maybe its not too late to get Pardo.....................

It's proof that in this business, it's all about WHO you are and not HOW GOOD you are.

...kinda reminds me of when MSNBC went with Dee Snider as its utility announcer. And am I simply missing it, or do the images of ex-NBC anchors in the opening credits *still* omit Roger Mudd?...

Reminds me of Good Morning America's 30th anniversary back in 2005. I don't think Kevin Newman or Lisa McRee were shown or even mentioned. If I didn't know better, I would thought that Hartman, Lunden, Gibson, Sawyer, and Roberts were the only anchors in GMA history!
