NBC News Radio Coming to the Hudson Valley

As you may know that WGHQ, WBNR, WLNA and WHUC (now WAIP) is still carrying CNN Radio news at the top and bottom of the hour. I just read recently that all 4 of the Hudson Valley AM stations which will end.on April 1st when CNN Radio will stop carrying their hourly newscasts, it will become as NBC News Radio, the one that WGHQ used to carry NBC Radio newscast since the 70's and 80's. I guess WHUC is a Clear Channel station that still carries Dial Global's America's Best Music standards network, but I don't see any changes on WHUC to carry an NBC Radio newscasts until CNN Radio ends its hourly newscasts beginning on April 1st. There is a link to an NBC Radio site to go there.

NIS never made it to the 80's. It was over by 1977. WNWS sounded terrible, the audio was loaded with crackles and pops and PSA's! I remember seeing press releases right up to the very end that NBC was signing up 1000 watt affiliates .

One of the 1000 watters was WABY-1400 at that time in Albany. I Also believe that then WDEW 1570 Westfield, MA, a 2500 watt daytimer was NIS. WENU in S. Glens Falls will also be NBC network news. One Question I have; is CNN radio going away completely or is it just those programmers who use Dial Global's satellite networks?

Thanks Scott, I never go such a quick answer on anything else in my life. That will mean that WENT 1340 Gloversville-Johnstown will also have a new network. WENT for years was CBS until WGY bullied their way with their 50KW to steal it from WENT-AM, WENU-FM, WSTL-AM and WQBK-AM back in 1989 only to change to ABC a few years later until Clear Channel went with the new FOX network. It would be nice if WENT could get CBS again, but more likely they will have NBC. The nearest CBS is WROW 590, Albany which does not have a following in GLV-JTN.

CNN Radio goes away at the end of March.

Thanks! WHUC is still carrying CNN Radio News at the top of the hour, the station is owned by Clear Channel, but I had no word on what will be replace the hourly newscasts. Maybe an hourly newscast from Fox News Radio instead of NBC News Radio, because CC didn't want to use news that are from NBC News Radio.

WGHQ, WLNA and WBNR are starting to carrying the hourly news from NBC News Radio in about a week. WGHQ had been carried the NBC Radio News since the 1990's, but the station began carrying NBC Radio since the 60's when WGHQ carried it.

Disney; That would also mean the same for WKIP as well as WJIP(now Ellenville)?
Disney jumbles up owners in his sentences. Clear Channel does not own WGHQ, WLNA, or WBNR, Pamal does. Although it remains to be seen what the Pamal stations will do, they likely will switch to Global provided NBC. Clear Channel owned WKIP and WJIP have used Fox news for years, why would they change? The one odd station is CC Hudson based WHUC (WAIP) that has used CNN. If they are simulcasting WKIP, it would make sense they would switch to FOX like most Clear Channel stations.

I agree with that. As you know, all three Pamal AM stations WGHQ, WBNR and WNLA as well as CC's WHUC are still runninb TOH CNN Radio news, and guess what it will be their final week of running a CNN hourly newscasts until this Saturday where it becomes NBC News Radio which will be appearing on all three Pamal AM stations and one CC station which is WHUC (WAIP). As I said, only one more week of CNN Radio News at the top of the hour and it's the end of an era. NBC News Radio is coming this Sunday.

I chevked WHUC this morning and they're still running CNN Radio News at the top of the hour on this CC amd the three Pamal stations in the HV including WGHQ, WBNR and WLNA. Only two more days remaining of CNN Radio News and we're finished. I hope if I can record an aircheck of the last hour of CNN Radio News at 11 PM Saturday night discussing the end of the newscast including some memories and some goodbyes to the people who has been with CNN Radio for the last 30+ years. I'll get that soon. Starting this Sunday, WGHQ, WBNR and WLNA are going to premiere the new hourly newscast called NBC News Radio while WHUC is a CC owned stationare going to Fox News Radio to run this hourly newscasts as well. We'll have to find out coming this Sunday.

I also checked one of the stations that WGHQ, WLNA, WBNR and WHUC are still running CNN Radio hourly newscasts. Starting tomorrow will be their last day of CNN Radio News on any of these HV stations. Starting this Sunday, it will be replace by NBC News Radio. The 3 Pamal AM stations are also be going to NBC News Radio while CC's WHUC are going to replace CNN Radio News with Fox News Radio. Only more day left of CNN Radio News and we're finished. Tomorrow night at 11 PM will be the last night of CNN Radio News for now, I'll make an aircheck of that tomorrow.

A lot of people have probably forgotten that WGY was with CBS for a brief time after it noisily severed ties with NBC Radio in 1989, claiming "severe deterioration of product" under Westwood One as the cause (an understatement if ever there were one). Charles Osgood, on his morning broadcast, greeted the station's new affiliation on its first day, telling about WGY's distinguished history and making great sport of the [supposed] tie-in between the NBC Chimes ("G-E-C") and the General Electric Company, which he concluded by emphasizing, "This is Charles Osgood . . . on the CBS Radio Network!"

Doug Lezette told me several years ago that sometime in the late '80s-early '90s there was a move afoot to rejoin WGY and WRGB (TV) as sister stations under the same ownership, which unfortunately never materialized. That intent may have been part of the reason for the CBS affiliation, but I suspect it had more to do with CBS' reputation as the "Tiffany Network" with a great news heritage. It wasn't long before WGY left CBS for ABC; that had to do with Dame Media's sale to Clear Channel. The rest, as we know, is history. WGY, she ain't what she used to be.

As you know, today is our last day of running CNN Radio hourly newscasts on all four HV AM stations. Starting tomorrow, all three Pamal stations on AM including WGHQ, WBNR and WLNA are going to launch NBC News Radio hourly newscasts, no word on what CC's WHUC (now soon to be WAIP) are going to, probably Fox News Radio or NBC News Radio. We'll find out tomorrow.

Starting at 11 PM, CNN Radio will have its final hourly newscasts on all four HV AM stations, I'll plan on recording an aircheck starting at 11 PM tonight. Stay tuned.

I just listened to CNN Radio News for the final 11 PM hour on all four HV stations (WGHQ, WLNA, WBNR and WHUC). I had finally recorded it and I'm going to post it right now. This is the final 11 PM hourly newscast of CNN Radio News after 30 years, it will be gone for good. Here it is.

I hope that all three of the Pamal AM stations are going to launch NBC News Radio in the next hour and one CC statiion which is WHUC (WAIP) are going to either Fox News Radio or NBC News Radio. We'll find out!

The aircheck that I recorded came from WGHQ, but I can't picked up WHUC at night, because of that IBOC interference.
