NBC on-screen bug in different place

NBC has changed their on-screen network bug.

First, it is now located in the bottom-left of the screen rather than the bottom right. I beleive this is the first time, other than sports and news, that I have seen a bug in this postition of the screen.

Second, there is a ".com" to the right of the screen. The letters "NBC" appear nowhere on the screen. I know they are trying to promote their website, but it just doesn't promote properly.

I think they need to get rid of the ".com".

Rats! Now I gotta move my on-screen bug killer (a Post-It note) to a different position when switching the channel to NBC. But I don't recall seeing their full-color bug during any opening credits last night. Anyone know if this move is permanent?

About 5 years or so ago, UPN briefly had its bug in the lower left corner (the old circle-triangle-square logo).

Agreed, but it seems to be a sign of an era where old and new media are becoming indistinguishable. (sp?) You see it with AMC alternating their logo and URL in their bug. Same thing with the new ABC News bug. The Weather Channel, if I'm not mistaken, permanently has "weather.com" alongside its bug. Like it or not, it wouldn't be suprising if more networks and stations are picking up on this.

What, you mean to say you don't have a "peacock" key on your computer? I thought everyone had one of those. :)

During Studio 60 last night, the bug wasn't in the bottom left, more like the middle left. It was extremely annoying. Bugs belong in the corner, not plastered on Matthew Perry's face (although I'm sure someone would call that an improvement, so I'll beat them to the joke right now).

Speaking of logos in weird positions on the screen, for the last few days every so often WHPX the "i" network affiiliate in the Hartford Market has had a medium sized PAX 26 logo at the bottom of the screen in the center. Weird considering there hasn't been a PAX Network since July 05. Even weirder is that when they were PAX the only time they used the PAX 26 logo when they rebroadcasted NBC 30's 11PM News. (The PAX 26 logo they had on the screen yesterday was much bigger than the one they used during the NBC 30 newscast).

As for the new NBC bug being on the bottom center-left, were you watching that show in HD? That's where it was for me with "The Tonight Show" here in greater Hartford on WVIT-DT channel 35 (analog 30).

Makes one wonder how they'll do that bug when it's Olympics time again? :)

No, I wasn't watching in HD. I think Studio 60 was filmed in HD, though, which might have been the reason for the weird placement on that show. It was in the bottom left corner during DOND, as I guess it's supposed to be.

Bugs/dogs do not belong on TV. If you are stupid enough not to know which channel you are watching you are probably lucky you turned on the TV in the first place!

Bugs are ridiculous. They started using their bug at 8PM, because NBC Daytime still had the old bug. It does look nice. However, I hate when stations put .com in the logo. It's all about the internet today, which is annoying. Every story on the news or extra feature is online.

isnt it a law or something that channels have to place bugs on the screen. Hey the NBC one isnt bad, it could be animated or something *cough cough* ABC NEWS. Now that one is annoying lol.

I don't think it's the law....

If it is the law, then Newscorp is in violation because My Network TV has no bug during Desire and Fashion House (although it posts five-second reminders at random times on the lower left side of the TV screen), and CBS Corporation and Time-Warner could be in trouble for the same thing with the WB and UPN (although on KWKB in Iowa City, Iowa, I saw the CW bug at times during WB Prime shows, but never on Daytime WB)

Just saw Conan tonight, and there wasn't ".com" next to the peacock, but the bug was still on the left. I have seen ".com" there before....is kinda weird/different.

No, it's not a law.

It can't be a law as stations don't use them during infomercials. Plus WTNH and sister station WCTX in New Haven don't use them. Sometimes during ABC News Special Reports they'll stick a NewsChannel 8 logo over the ABC Logo. Other than the news no bug on WTNH. WCTX will stick up a MY TV 9 bug for a few seconds going back into the program after a commercial break, but it's not plastered to the screen. For the first few years of existance WCTX did use a WB59 WTVU/WBNE bug, but sometime later they dropped it. The only time WCTX sticks up on MYTV 9 bug on the screen is during the Yankees game to cover up the MY9 Logo from WWOR.

Uhh...I hate to break this to you but Lassie is a dog and we can find her on TV (Alebit in reruns). :D

Just figured you'd wanna know that little piece of information. :D

Cheers :D

Why? It doesn't make much sense. Both are MyNet affiliates and use (albeit to some extent and degree) the MY TV 9 moniker.

Just my opinion though....

Cheers :D

Uhhh....I hate to break this to you, but what some commonly call a "bug", others correctly call a "dog", or more accurately, D.O.G., as in Digital On-screen Graphic.

Just figured you'd wanna know that little piece of information.

There is one bug required by law. The "E/I" bug must be shown during any show a station wants to claim toward its "educational & informational" programming requirement. IMO, the FCC might not have required it, except that they noticed stations show these bugs anyway, so I think the FCC figured there might as well be one more of them.
