NBC Plans 12-day long, 24/7 quiz show this fall

Is it called "Guess the next successful NBC program?"

That might take longer than 12 days.

And what of the affiliates in the Mountain and Pacific time zones?
Doubtful it will be live there.

Well, if it's running 24/7, it could be. But they could delay it for those zones the way they do SNL, too.

Hmmm...seems like a combination of one of those Japanese-style outdoor quizzes (like the "Ultra Quiz" that Rowan & Martin tried to import here) & Big Bro.

Dear NBC, just **** off and die already! No one watches your god-awful shows, and more are turning off your good shows.

If I want reality, I can look out my window. I use TV for an escape from reality. I just don't get these reality shows. A friend taped the first Survivor and let me borrow the tape to watch it before the second episode aired. That is the only episode of Survivor (or any "reality" show) I have ever watched. This NBC thing has no appeal to me. But then again I have reached the lower limits of the demo advertisers don't want to reach (55+).

I was thinking the same thing myself. This is just proof positive that NBC has......at long last......finally reached the bottom of the barrel.

Would someone please pass the sake? ;D

Will this lead to NBC local news anchors screaming bloody murder from 12 days of news pre-emptions, due to this 24 hour piece of crap? I have not watched ONE prime-time NBC program in years, thank god! Maybe an occasional Leno (who Fallon is replacing), but that's about it!

Sounds to me like although they're calling it a 12-day, 24/7 quiz show, the majority of it will be online, with a 3-hour primetime show on 12 consecutive nights.

Expect frequent "check-ins" on Today, Tonight, Late Night and Last Call. NBC Nightly News will probably try to get away with a feature piece on the first and last days. But I think the only pre-emption will be NBC primetime. And that will most likely just consist of Premiere Week being pushed back.

Why did you use such rough language against NBC? I would never express myself that way against any person or company. I would treat others the way I would want them to treat me.

One can also expect the NBC affiliates' local news to have a blurb, or update, about it near the end of the news program; never mind that it is NOT news!

True. But it will be the lead-in to their late local news for 12 consecutive nights, so there will be tons of hype from the affiliates. If the numbers aren't good, they get hurt at 11 (10 Central and Mountain).

Frankly, I think that's his response to their treatment of him. Debate on its appropriateness is left as an exercise for the reader.

This is NBC, whose last gasp as a radio network was the single, monolithic show called "Monitor". Could that be where we're headed?

"Monitor", by the way, could be very good...

Interesting to see all the invective against this idea..

If NBC is having trouble with "traditional" prime-time shows, why not try something off-the-wall? Might it flop? Absolutely.

On the other hand, every genre that's big today was a bizarre pile of weirdness at one time. Believe it or not, there was a day when airing a professional football game was a chancy move. A channel where all they do is talk about sports? Why would you waste your money? Two & a half *hours* of local news every night? You've got to be insane!

This is broadcasting. Just like every other industry, we tend to dismiss change. Just like every other industry, change happens anyway. Just because nobody's tried it before doesn't mean it won't work. Just because it's NBC doesn't mean it won't work. (I remember a day when it was CBS that was in trouble, with affiliates bailing out left & right. NBC was a solid #1 & many said that would never change.)

Actually, this show may not be quite as unprecedented as it seems. http://www2.lawrence.edu/sorg/trivia/index.html"]The WLFM trivia contest[/url] has been going on for nearly 50 years, and it's not the only one.

You can be assured that most of this show will NOT air on the NBC OTA affiliates. Local news brings in enough revenue that no affiliate would allow the network to completely preempt twelve days' worth of newscasts. michael hagerty probably has it: this will air on the OTA affiliates only in prime-time but will receive frequent promotion on other NBC programs (Today etc.) and on the local affiliates.

I would suggest the fact it's received two pages of discussion on this forum in less than 18 hours means it *is* news:) .

^ Let's run with that.....if it *is* news, then---ready?---*every* channel should mention it, not just the NBC ones :)

Hey I love game shows.....but those that are indoor, in a studio, with bells & buzzers, a studio audience, etc., with happy music, no eerie stuff (as in suspense).....

And only half an hour long(unless it's 'The Price is Right').
