NBC PLANS TO BRING "THE MUNSTERS" BACK TO LIFE

I hope they do well, but it's hard to beat a classic and the Munsters, for it's shortcomings is a classic.

People have forgotten it, but this was tried already, as "The Munsters Today," around 1990-ish....shot on videotape, even!

I remember that version...

We're The Munsters (We're The Munsters)

;D

Can't any network come up with any original programming? The Munsters were fun in their day and, in my opinion, was made for black and white TV, but how about something new and interesting. If a remake (which like most remakes will probably bomb) is all NBC can come up with for "new" programming, then the state of network television is even worse than I could have imagined. Network TV today is terrible and with all the choices on cable and the internet, maybe the big three (and Fox) may one day disappear if they can't come up with something other than reality shows and remakes of classic series.

First thought that came to mind......Danny DeVito as "Grandpa".

Second thought that came to mind......Somewhere, somehow...they would HAVE to find a place for Gilbert Gottfried...He would be a natural!

Who knows? It might surprise us!

At this point, any success of a remake would be a surprise -- The Bionic Women, Knight Rider, Charlie's Angels are just a few series that if you blinked, you missed them.

The suits still don't get it. The charm of the original was the CAST. Yes, another cast technically as good could be assembled....perhaps.....but it will always be compared with the original (by anyone old enough to remember) and most probably won't measure up.

A new mousetrap isn't always better.

I'm so sick of remakes being shoved down our throats. Enough is enough. Some of the original shows weren't even good at the time- they just caught attention at a time when there were 3 choices on television. There's a reason these shows don't survive when they're up against actual competition.

At this point, NBC would be better off pulling shows off their cable networks and given them greater exposure. This could at least plug schedule holes while they tried to develop other programming. What do they really have to lose?

I remember that Munsters remake show around 20 years ago. It sucked. It looked like it was shot on a cheap news camera. It just didn't look right with different actors. RTV played reruns of it a while back. Not sure if they still do, since my local station replace RTV with Antenna TV.

As "The Munsters Today" is owned by Universal, I don't believe so, as it probably went bye-bye when the other Universal shows left RTV earlier this year.

Next thing you know we'll be watching a recast Gomer Pyle, USMC. That would be an interesting thing to try! Is there anybody out there that could play those roles and do it well?

Austen Kutcher. And it would get him the hell off Two And A Half Men. ;D

How about "The Andy Griffith Show", with someone else playing Andy taylor? Of course, this would be an instance that the show would be called "Andy of Mayberry".
