They should find the hit oldest sitcom, with the main core cast still alive, and then bring them all back

That would be MASH and obviously wouldn't work.

Past that, the next "big big hit" I can think of with a mostly intact cast would be the Cosby Show. And I wouldn't want to see that back on TV for anything.

and start shooting the series.

I think one problem is that NBC and the other networks seem to want to bypass the writers and just remake old series with the existing scripts, just hiring new actors.

Yes! Kerry is tall, and actually looks a bit like Fred Gwynne. The problem is, Kerry would bore the viewers to sleep with his bloviating.

At this point, any success of a remake would be a surprise -- The Bionic Women, Knight Rider, Charlie's Angels are just a few series that if you blinked, you missed them.

Isn't the remake of HAWAII FIVE-O a hit at CBS? It is already on its second season.

You need look no further than OTR to find very funny scripts that no virtually no one will remember.

When you remake shows the trick is to get a new spin on them. Like the "Brady Bunch Movie," was good because it had a hook to it. The Bradys still living in the 70s, while the world passed them by and they didn't know it

"The Munsters" had a similar hook. They were fish out of water but didn't know it.

For casting you would probably be good to do what they did with the original cast minor celebrities who weren't household names except for Yvonne DeCarlo.

I recall an interview where Al "Grandpa" Lewis said both he and Fred Gwynne were very opposed to casting of DeCarlo. They thought she was a "real" actress and would never be able to grasp the idea the writers were going for. They said, she was a star and we just knew she would never fit in. Then he said, "We were wrong, who would have knew?"

Yeah, I remember it. While I was in a motel, I saw the original and it was brilliant. I used to watch it as a child, but didn't remember much about it.

First thought that came to mind......Danny DeVito as "Grandpa".

Second thought that came to mind......Somewhere, somehow...they would HAVE to find a place for Gilbert Gottfried...He would be a natural!

I hope they do well, but it's hard to beat a classic and the Munsters, for it's shortcomings is a classic.

And considering we're talking about NBC here & not CBS, I think it's safe to assume this show will die a quick & painless death ;D

But for those who need a reminder - Anyone here remember what happened to the 1990s version of Twilight Zone ??

I fully expect a reboot of "Super Train", "Pink Lady & Jeff", "The Star Wars Christmas Special" and "Quark" by the next pilot cycle.

Hell, if NBC wants to remake history, at least make it something that was absolute crap the first time around.

I watched "The Munsters" in my junior high school years. One of my English teachers was part of a charity group that brought in Yvonne De Carlo to speak at a fundraiser.
When the head of the group presented Miss De Carlo with a bouquet of roses at the end of her speech, she quipped, "I love roses, too,...but my favorite flowers are Lillies".
My teacher told us she thought it was "very rude of her", until somebody explained it to her. I guess she'd never watched the show. ;D

And the reasons why are certainly beyond me.

I was a dedicated fan of the original. Would seek it out to watch or record it on obscure
channels at any odd time of day. But I have not seen the new version after the premiere.
The ludicrous plot in the pilot just turned me straight away from it.

I think the other version that Pat was referring to was the mid-80s version that CBS briefly revived, and then later went into first-run syndication for its final season (1988-89).
