NBC promoting ABC?

NBC had a little clock during the boring poker show that had the "countdown to kickoff" with a counter counting until the Super Bowl kickoff.

Is it me or is this a bad idea to remind your viewers about the highly aired event on the competition? I know that everyone knows about the super bowl, and knows it is on ABC, and such, but why give it any additional promotion?

Bad move on NBC's part...

I think the point was, that you're not missing anything (other than pregame hype) if you keep it on NBC until kickoff.

The other networks are smart enough to realize that there is very little counter-programing you can offer to top the Superbowl. While they can offer an alternative, there is no way any other network would win the time period. <P ID="signature">______________

Look, "kayfabe" is over. The majority of everyone who is anyone knows where the game is, and when to tune in. "Super Bowl" Sunday means big TV watching parties, meaning more viewers overall....so, if youre not going to be number one, number two or three wont be so bad.

Besides, after tonight NBC can tell ABC to...um..whats the kids vernacular...suck it, ....i think...as not only do they take NFL football from the ESPN owned ABC...they get John Madden...and reportedly Al Michaels will say he ll join Madden on Sundays next year.

How ironic. ABC bought ESPN in hopes that ABC Sports would remain "Championship Television". ESPN has grown up and siphoned off what was once the best sports programming on TV....

Fine by me. I don't get a decent ABC worth watching on cable, just the local awful Sinclair station. Out of market ABC's are availble via antenna, but there isn't anything worth watching that I feel the need to put an antenna to watch a decent ABC affiliate.

On the other side, our cable system did us a favor by replacing the 2nd, good ABC we used to get with the Celebrty Shopping Network, all infomercials, all the time. The same crap channel is simulcast on channel 68 overnight too in place of another channel which has full time programming and not infomercials overnight.(INstead of putting over another channel which runs infomercials overnight like FX or Discovery).

Hi everyone:

Not only that, but putting Arena Football on at 1:00 PM ET as opposed to 4:00 PM ET (where they *could've* provided an alternative for those who didn't really care to watch the Super Bowl or the pregame hoopla before it) would've also been nice. Anyone (like myself) who saw the Colorado-Georgia game would know. :)

I mean, just WHAT was the point of even televising the Colorado-Georgia game (A rematch of last year's Arena Bowl & NBC's marquee game I might add, even though Tom Hammond nor Pat Haden were in the booth) if NBC *WAS NOT* going to use it as a means of keeping viewers on the network for PRIME TIME in case the game ran into (if not PAST) the 7:00 PM ET hour (which would've put the end of Colorado-Georgia right around the start of the 2nd quarter in Super Bowl XL instead of the 4:00 PM ET hour when the game ended).

And lastly...The cherry on the proverbial sundae was the fact that the poker tournament was TAPED (from Saturday Night?). Did NBC *REALLY* have to put this on AFTER the AFL? I don't think so. The AFL on NBC was a LIVE event and couldn't be broadcast on a delayed basis. The poker tournament WAS NOT live and could be broadcast quite literally ANYTIME (and on ANY one of their other networks too if need be).

Bad move by NBC? You bet.

Just my opinion :/

Cheers :)
