NBC renews "DAYS" for another Season

Now, let's bring it in to the 21st century, by shooting it in HDTV and some surround sound.
Makes it fit in so much better with all the other dramatic programming.

Moonves and Zucker have been going around saying daytime is dead, yet in the past year Days of our Lives has 1. posted actual ratings growth 2. balanced its budget and is proving to be financially viable again. Thus it got renewed, guess Zucker has had bigger things to worry about.

When they cancel one soap, the diehard soap opera fans will migrate to another one. So it's no surprise that the ratings went up, the hard part will be retaining the ones that came over and decide that they don't like it and leave.

I'm surprised. This show has been on life support for years and NBC doesnt want to commit it seems to a multi year deal.

This may have well been lets leave it alone for now and not screw up another daypart on the network. The late night thing really is nt over yet which will perk up again in September upon Conan's return wherever that may be.

Sorry not the deal here. The show's ratings were rising months before Guiding Light's cancellation was even announced.

Days also has the best demographics of all the soaps.

With GL gone and ATWT going (and rumors abounding
that OLTL is going as well), I think only four soaps are
safe right now: Y&R, B&B, Days, and GH. Does anyone
know if the move to LA has helped All My Children?

I think the best there will be in Frances Reid's case is flashbacks. Soap Opera Digest announced several past cast members are coming to visit 'Alice' when they find out she's not doing well. They're stretching the timeframe of use of flashbacks/remembrances instead of just cramming all they can into a couple of days for a funeral. 'Alice' would be like her husband 'Tom' (MacDonald Carey), 'Chris' (Don McLaughlin) on ATWT, 'Mac' (Douglass Watson) and 'Ada' (Constance Ford) on Another World, and 'Steve Hardy' (John Beradino) on GH --all considered irreplaceable as actors and characters by their respective shows.

While an upgrade to HD would be nice, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Upgrading to HD would mean new sets, and many of Days' sets are classic and have been in use for decades. Plus, NBC is getting good ratings the way things are now.

like sands through an hour glass....so is the concept of the daytime TV soap opera....

I guess NBC wanted to continue "Days Of Our Lives" to reach it's 45th birthday on November 8th, but it is surprising that the
Peacock Network has stuck with this daytime drama all these years, but the question remains, how much longer can it go on
with the decline in viewership during the day?, and with "As The World Turns" bidding farewell in September on CBS, who will
be the next one to get cancelled?, i expect it will be "One Life To Live" on ABC.
